Folding @ Home GPU and Win 7 Sleep mode

Sun May 13, 2012 11:11 pm

Will windows 7 sleep mode interrupt my folding? (is it necessary to change the power options so that my folding rig never sleeps?)

Yeah, F@h and power management are generally incompatible. You may also want to look at whether the CPU is throttling down its clock speed when F@h is the only load on the system; not sure about Win7 but this was definitely an issue on Linux with AMD's Cool 'n' Quiet feature. Solution for CPU power management throttling is to either disable CPU power management, or configure the F@h client to run at "Low" instead of "Idle" priority.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Not sure what is happening on the Linux side, but back when I have my AMD CPUs (still 1 system running), it is working. In between WUs the CPU will clock down for like 30seconds and once a new WU is started it cranks back up again. The fan also calmed down a bit. It was my signal that a WU had been sent. :) Same with my current system.

GPU folding may be a different story, since the CPU is not 100% and AFAIK the OS is basing off CPU usage.
