Pairing a GPU to a CPU...is there a minimum Ghz ?

Thu May 17, 2012 8:25 pm

I'm building a new comp and I'm thinking about buying a Radeon HD 7950 for gaming and was wondering if a CPU should be matched to it by some degree, I was thinking of the Intel 3570k proc on a Z77 board to play games like BF3 on a 24" 1900x1200 monitor.

I guess the question is, is there a way to know how GPU's and CPU's should be matched together ?

Since the Core i5-3570K is one of the fastest quad-core processors that you can buy, it should be more than adequate for your new build (in this thread).

It's a matter of balancing where your budget goes. If you've got enough to get both the Core i5-3570K and the Radeon HD7950 along with an SSD and the other components in a fast gaming PC, you aren't having to make many compromises.

The relative importance of CPU clock speed and number of cores will vary depending on the games that you're playing.
