First time building

Sat May 19, 2012 8:54 pm

I'm looking to build a desktop computer to run Diablo 3. I'm trying to have something under $1000 with a pretty good NVIDIA graphics card and preferably intel for a processor. Other than that I'm absolutely clueless on how to put a computer together. I'd like to be able to run Diablo on highest settings flawlessly, and I'm way out of my element with this sort of thing so really I'm asking for someone else to do all the work for me, or rather, just tell me the best parts I can get at a very reasonable price.

Welcome to the Tech Report!

Do you already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers that you can re-use?

Are there any other components from your old PC that you might want to re-use?

Do you live near a Micro Center?

Here's another option for gaming on a tight budget:

$389 +tax +fs Refurbished Dell Inspiron 620
· Inspiron 620 MiniTower
· Intel Core i3-2120 processor (hyper-threading dual-core 3.3GHz, 3MB Cache)
· 6 GiB DDR3 memory at 1333MHz (1x2G + 1x4G)
· 500 GB SATA hard drive (3.5 Inch,7200,NCQ,16M)
· 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
· Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
· Keyboard and 2-button mouse
· 1-year warranty

or $549 +tax +fs Refurbished Dell XPS 8300
· XPS 8300
· Intel Core i5-2320 processor (quad-core 3.0GHz, 6MB Cache)
· 6 GiB DDR3 memory at 1333MHz (2x2G + 2x1G)
· 1 TB SATA II hard drive (7200RPM)
· 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
· Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium
· Keyboard and 6-button mouse
· 1-year warranty

$189 +tax +fs Refurbished Dell UltraSharp U2312HM 23" 1920x1080 e-IPS LCD monitor
· 1-year warranty when purchased with a PC
=======
$578 +tax +fs from Dell
A scratched and dented unit would be $20 cheaper, but the certified refurbished PC will look like a new one.

$240 +fs XFX Radeon HD7850 2GB FX-785A-CNFC graphics card
$16 +fs Microsoft Comfort Mouse 4500 (with 5 buttons)
$40 +fs Logitech Z313 2.1-channel speakers

It works out to about the same price.
