That is my concern as well. I will let you know once it arrives. Its a 1080p 15.6'' matte display but viewing angles, color accuracy etc are unknown.

This is the machine in question: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.as ... 6834152339

Ignore the garish external look :P

How!? Sorry, just kidding around. Hope you enjoy the new system. Wish I could get a Dell XPS with a more-serious GPU inside. Bothers me that all the nice gaming laptops are decked-out with plastic and bling. Reminds me of the desktop PC case fad circa 2003-2008.

Quite nice specs- I like how thin it is.

I just wonder though, will you be happy with the bog-standard screen? I'm selling my Toshiba now that I've received my Clevo P170EM mostly because 1366x768 is just too small for serious work, and I'm headed back to school. It is fine for games and other media though, and that GT650m is more than fast enough.

The screen is 1080p on the GE60.

I do agree XPS are nice looking systems, but I needed it rather urgently and this had decent specs for the price :)

How is the display? Is the LCD panel IPS, PVA or nasty TN technology?

I've actually had my eye on this model for awhile now. I'm stuck between this and the GT683. I would really like the multicolor keyboard, but it is thicker, hotter, and flamboyant. The GE60 would be a nice balance between power consumption/battery life, heat, weight.

MSI typically uses nicer samsung displays.

The screen is 1080p on the GE60.

Sorry, Google must have spit me something else out. That being that, it's pretty nice overall!

Edit: MSI's page which I referenced earlier says otherwise, but I assume it's an option.

Edit Edit: I read it wrong, it IS an option, sorry!

Machine is here finally! First impressions are very positive so far!

1. It is actually quite a reasonably proportioned machine (2.6kg or so) given the power it is packing. It is quite similar to the mainstream 15.6'' notebooks in form factor, and nowhere as chunky as a "typical" gaming notebooks. The power brick is quite big though.
edit: Actually, calling the power brick "big" does not do it justice. It is MASSIVE :D

2. Display is quite good. Viewing angles are reasonable, much better than budget panels, and screen resolution is awesome (1080p) and as promised in the specs, it is non-glossy (i.e. matte). Not quite sure about the color accuracy, but I dont really know how to test that.

3. Keyboard is reasonable. No flex noticeable. Keys are flattish but do have some feedback and are not mushy. Touchpad is so-so but I plan to use an external mouse mostly anyway.

4. Build quality is average overall, but the DVD drive's bottom has a lot of flex.

5. The front status LEDs are a bit annoying.

6. Battery is only 49WHr which is a disappointment.

7. The exteriors are not bad. The pictures do not do it justice. From the pictures, I was fearing a garish flaming exterior, but actually the color tones used are quite subdued. Not exactly a work of art, but will do just fine in any situation including office situations.

8. GPU details: Nvidia control panel reports 384 CUDA cores, 810 MHz, 2GB GDDR5 clocked at effective rate of 4GHz with a 128-bit memory interface, giving a memory bandwidth of 64 gigabytes/sec. Optimus is enabled. Ships with driver version 295.10.
