Need Wireless router advice

Thu May 24, 2012 7:08 am

Hello, I have zyxel P-320W and I'm experiencing lot of problems with wireless connection.
Laptop often disconnects and I have to reset Router to get back connection(This has been driving me mad with Diablo 3)

I searched for my router and it appears to be pretty crappy one, I think problem is the router, but to be honest am not even sure if that's the case and don't really know much about networking to realy get down to problem.

When I get network down in Laptop, I get same in Kindle reader, I also had problems with Gateway timed out error on PC when playing battlefield.

I started searching for replacement Router, My internet package recently became 40mbs so I would like router to support that.
My house is not big, but I would still like decent range support. Price range I thought about around 20~30 bucks, but 40 could do if I'm getting something better, I really don't want advanced high price stuff. just decent router.

I found this factory refurbished Cisco router, Cisco Linksys Factory Refurbished E1500 25$ I'm not sure about internal Antena and reviews mention need to disable some feature to make Wireless work

another thing withing price range was TP-Link-WL-TL-WR841N-300Mbps, it had decent reviews but looks realy lame
http://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-WL-TL-WR8 ... 1QPVJYBNP8

also this dlink model, but everyone complained about low range.

(icant buy from newegg sadly :()

if you can give me any advice or suggestions about my problem, would be much appreceated

-Cheers

Dunno if you're going to find anything decent in that price range. In my experience inexpensive WiFi routers all pretty much suck in one way or another.

I eventually ended up rolling my own (wired) router using an old PC, and using the last WiFi router I bought as just an access point (it does an OK job for that).
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

The best home router I've used is my current WRT54GL with tomato firmware. You might be able to find one on ebay or around somewhere.

A Cicso/Linksys WRT54GL will cost you $50 from either Newegg or Amazon. Load it with Tomato firmware and you'll never have another issue.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

There it is :)
Hasn't this router, or at least the style been around forever? Kinda sad that Linksys is moving away from it...

I think I had this model before...some sale at Sam's Club before I moved to Chicagoland. The new software makes setting up your passwords and security pretty easy if you don't want to mess with your own firmware, but that's what TR users are for, right?
On second thought, let's not go to TechReport. It's infested by crypto bull****.

The 54GL is a pretty good router (I still use one), but it's an ancient design with only 4MB of flash (limits which 3rd-party firmware you can run) and doesn't support 802.11n.

Tomato supports the Asus RT-N12, which is more modern. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00517AR3M/
