Hello everyone! I'm one of the "GW" players from CBE and JAE always suggests I post questions over here....so here is the situation:

I have an HP Pavilion. The E drive for CD and DVD suddenly quit working. I can't find it on the computer drive list and when I click on a game program with a cd in place, it says to "insert disk" But when I insert any disk, CD or DVD, it repeats the same commands. And then I can't eject the disk....only on boot up can I get the tray to open.

That's a bummer. Have checked to see if the optical drive is registering in the BIOS setup?

It is possible to replace optical drives in many notebooks. I replaced the original DVD-RW drive in my Asus G50Vt with a Blu-ray burner.

Thanks Jae! I'll check that next...even when I can insert a cd the drive does nothing. It's like there is no disc in the tray. I have a feeling it's toast and I'll have to replace it....might be a good time to install more RAM as well.

If you don't want to disassemble your notebook, you could also plug in an external (USB) drive.

Hmm....and miss the chance to use tools & such!?! But the safer option might be the external hard drive....
