P.S. Chicago Amtrak isn't fast, but it's not bad all around.

ok....

Do I want to come? Yes.

Am I available to come? Another yes.

Will I cook if I come? Absolutely yes.

Am I coming? No idea.

Why not? Well it all depends on what the attendees think. Especially the ones who have known me from prior events.

I have already talk to Fish so he knows what has occurred. Anyone else who I know, who wants to know, please PM me and I will tell you the story. If I get enough peeps who are cool with everything I will attended. :D

Just made the requisite hotel reservations. Yes, I'm coming, and the potato gun will be in the trunk. Keep your eyes open for a fat pasty white guy in tye-dye and driving a Subaru.

Gas all the way. Intermediate stop on both trips is Erie, PA. This time I'll remember the screaming left-hand turn on I-90 in Cleveland. Last (and first) time I was surprised by that I was driving a 1978 Datsun 200SX.

I will be putting together a fireworks show for the BBQ. Now that aerial fireworks are legal we can put on a nice show without worrying about the law. That being said such activities can be costly. If anyone would like to throw money in the "burning pot" for this endeavor please contact me via PM. I am thinking for starters a bunch of large "cakes" and "mortars". However if we can gather enough funds I could possibly get a hold of some professional grade fireworks and we could make big booms.

Question with that plan is, would Fish's neighbors have an issue with that? IIRC, he has some sqeamish neighbors

I would never dream of making plans like this without running it by him first as I already have  . But its just fireworks after all. Saturday night on the beach heck they will probably want to come watch.

What could possibly give you the idea that our neighbors are squeamish???

They can deal, I might give them a heads up earlier in the day but they lost any voice in the matter when they couldn't even be troubled to let us park on their property. :P

I'm managing the list in the first post, just tell me which category to slot you under. :) PMs with the address will go out a week before the event.

I'll start the who's-bringing-what portion of the thread in another couple weeks as we get closer. I can say that the main course items ARE COVERED so no worries about ribs, burgers, hotdogs, etc... We can always use soda, water, plates, napkins, silverware, veggies, snacks, etc. As we are going to try to entice people to stay a little later this year with a fairly awesome fireworks display we could use a second round of food like the brats Scott cooked up for us on the beach last year. Stuff for smores would be good too.

For non-food items consider a beach chair, swimsuit, towel[s], hardware to swap, sunblock, a hat, beach toys, whatever. :D

Ok, I've started to get serious about the raft design and by serious I mean I've busted out my laughable SolidWorks "skills" to draw some scale models of the thing. Behold!

Image

What I want to do this year is not have it be just a flat raft with the same size sections, but on the other hand I can't really make it any more complicated than varying the size of these circles.

Image

I'm not sure I will make it this big, but the important info to get from the sheet is that if I did it would be ~30' long when inflated and made of 14 sections. Its a good start but I'm not in love with it. I tried playing around with using the Fibonacci sequence to dictate the size of the sections but it got out of control fast although I still like the idea if I can match the sizes to a regression line instead of just following the numbers as 1', 1', 2', 3', 5', 8', etc... Another option would be to make two large sections on the ends with the middle ones being small - or one large section in the middle with the ends tapering down to small...

If you're feeling ambitious you can use my source files to play around like I have been:
http://dr_fish.speedymail.org/techrepor ... aft.SLDPRT
http://dr_fish.speedymail.org/techrepor ... sheet.xlsx

What do you guys think? :o

Also, please continue to reply and let me know if you are confirmed or not - and it wouldn't hurt to start listing what you will be bringing. :)

You know how my brother and I roll.........we usually cant confirm until the actual week of the BBQ, but once confirmed, you know we are the "X" factor in regards to bringing stuff, so once again, i'll give you those phone calls while enroute and pick up whatever last minutes items are needed.

Of course, we are gonna try and bring a crap load of hardware, chairs, a table, and maybe even a cool folding shelf unit I bought just for the BBQ, to better display my hardware :)

Also, dont you or gleek or someone still have my old wooden folding table from like four years ago?

Dp,
Sorry, I got nothing.

Here's another take on the raft with the whole Fibonacci thing tossed into the mix:

You can see what I mean about it getting out of control. :o

Or it could look something like this:

Edit: For reference this is last year's raft to scale with the others. Yowza, glad I drew that up - I may have to adjust my plans! :o
