And you'd be correct. Everyone knew it was a C-Media chip running the Xonar but Asus tried to make everyone believe it was a chip of its own design. To do so, they had to write a complete driver suite, and they didn't get it right. Enter UniXonar, which is based on the original C-Media drivers.

If you really care buy a stand alone DAC and just use the onboard digital out.
