According to AMD's website, we should "Meet the 2nd-Generation AMD A-Series Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) – formerly codenamed “Trinity”. Funny though, how it isn't actually available yet.

When you click on 'AMD A-Series Processors', however, there's also no mention of the A10 or Trinity on the succeeding page (as of this posting). Whoever is maintaining AMD's website should have his **lls cut off and barbecued.

I hope the TR review is coming up, not to mention the actual chips.

Tomshardware is such a joke these days; there isn't even an Ivy Bridge HD4000 in the test.

Ever since Tom Pabst sold it off the review site has never been the same.

And yes, it's a joke, but nothing compared to AMD's site.

I believe the reason why no Intel 4000 graphics, is because there are no Intel CPUs in the price bracket they were looking at.
They were trying to have an even playing field (around $120).

Yeah, definitely no Intel IVB chips in the Trinity price range. Intel has so far stuck with SNB chips mostly with 2000 graphics, a couple with 3000.

That is a fair enough argument. I don't see a problem with sticking to a price range.

That brings up a new issue though; For less than $120, you could get:

• A $50 Radeon HD6670 with GDDR5, 480-shader at 800MHz
• A $68 Sandy Bridge Dual-core G620 @ 2.7GHz/3MB cache

Yes, in heavily-threaded stuff, the AMD's "four" threads will beat the Intel's two, but at the super-budget end desktop Trinity is aimed at, the G620 is plenty fast enough for what casual users need - they don't tend to multitask VM's and compile things all day, because that is what the $300 chips are for.

In gaming (especially at the 1080p resolution most people will be running a television or cheap 23" monitor at) the HD6670 on GDDR5 will tear the Trinity's IGP to pieces and then defacate on the remains. It's not even a remotely fair contest.

Chrispy_, not to mention that combo offers a much better upgrade path for budget concious enthusiasts. Cheap socket 1155 motherboards are abound, you can even get a very full featured Z77 based board for $100. Grab that combo now and down the line when you need a boost just throw a used Sandy Bridge quad core to get a huge upgrade. I don't think you'll see that option available later for Trinity based systems.

Yeah, don't get me wrong - I think Trinity is fantastic for the mobile space. I am waiting for a decent A10-4600M to appear so that I can buy one.

I just feel that it's out of place on the desktop. GPUs age much faster than CPUs, so you'll want to replace your integrated graphics WAAAAaaaay before you need to replace your CPU. On top of that, DDR3 shared with the CPU over a long PCI-e bus is hardly ideal for any GPU. Look at the GTX 640 review - that card is so promising on paper (with the exception of memory bandwidth) and yet it benchmarks slower than a fat man wading through mud.

Saw this on fudzilla this morning. Looks like Richland (Trinity's successor?) is scheduled to launch in Q2 2013. I have a hunch that Ivy Bridge is too close to Trinity for AMDs comfort so they had to speed up their release schedule to get out something better before Haswell comes and COMPLETELY wipes AMD out of the desktop arena (let alone laptops). Of course, given AMDs seemingly typical CPU delays, Q2 could easily turn into Q3 or Q4 2013. Time will tell I suppose.

That will be the definitive indicator of whether Rory can make AMD execute or if the company is washed up.
