Oh!! I recently discovered Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout...wow. Definetly the most aromatic beer I've ever come across and it easily takes a spot in my top 3 of all time. Great notes of coffee, chocolate, and VANILLA. Definetly something new. The bad part...it costs $9 per 16oz bottle at the liquor store near my house. :( Anybody know a cheaper way to get this stuff?

Their web site screams "scam" and "MLM pyramid scheme".

Their home page claims that the product is "The next level of Wellness and bio photon generator", and that it improves water by "producing scalar energy frequencies" and "rejuvenating molecular structures". Total technobabble BS!

The third link on their home page ("Be a parter", yes they can't even spell "partner" properly) takes you to a page that says:
Bio Disc 2 web site wrote:Welcome to the page dedicated to this great and amazing opportunity. You can become a Independent Reseller (IR) of QNET.net, the exclusive e-commerce on-line store, of Biodisc2 and all other bio energy products from Amezcua. No experience or skills need it.

OMG, run away!!!

(And no, I'm not going to post a direct link since that would help keep the site at the top of the search engine rankings. Google "bio disc 2" if you want to see their train wreck of a web site first hand.)

Mmm...Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA.

On a related note, Wil Wheaton posted something yesterday that I thought might interest the homebrewers around here. In short, Labely is a website that lets you design beer labels using a lot of templates, and it's free to design. I think the only costs are if you want Labely to print and ship you labels. It's not the most in-depth design tool, but it's pretty nifty. Here's one that I threw together in a few seconds.

Sounds fantastic!
I switched to Hair Of The Dog "Blue Dot" IPA. This is a great rye IPA... still my all-time favorite

Curious, that so many of the raving messages here are about IPAs

Jameson (12 year old special reserve), Kaluah and Bailey's. I've always been told not to mix Bailey's and whiskey, but it tastes fine and there's no separation issues. The three really compliment each other nicely. Plus it's a small glass filled with ice so hopefully it's not enough to cause stomach problems.

Y'know... I'd always thought that cucumber flavored beverages sounded like a weird idea. Then I tried a beer that was brewed with cucumbers recently. Not bad!

This is more directed to JBI, or anyone in the chicago area with beer experience:

Using the best site known to man on finding any breweries in any area in the USA, http://beermapping.com/

These are the likely choices:

Goose Island Brewery (http://www.gooseisland.com/)
Rock Bottom (http://www.rockbottom.com/)
Haymarket Pub & Brewery (http://www.haymarketbrewing.com/)
Moonshine (http://www.moonshinechicago.com/)
Piece Brewpub (http://www.piecechicago.com/)
Pipeworks Brewing (http://www.pipeworksbrewing.net/)
Revolution Brewing (http://www.revbrew.com/)
Metropolitan Brewing (http://www.metrobrewing.com/)
Half Acre Brewing (http://www.halfacrebeer.com/)
Finch's Beer Company (http://www.finchbeer.com/)

Which is a lot of choices... I'm looking to narrow it down to the top 3, and I really don't want to visit Goose Island - so pass on that.

Thanks!

Of those listed I'd say Haymarket, Revolution, and Piece would be my top 3 picks. I don't know anything about Moonshine or Pipeworks. I have not been to Goose since they got bought out by InBev, but last time I was there (couple of years ago) they had a number of beers on tap that were not available outside the brewpub.

If you're looking for an interesting beer bar (as opposed to a brewpub), check out The Map Room (http://maproom.com/).

And if you're coming out on I-94, be sure to stop at Greenbush in Sawyer MI!

Used to be a pretty good Euro Pils if you got a reasonably fresh pint on draft or a bottle from an unopened case so it wasn't lightstruck. Seems to have slipped in recent years. Sadly, I'm not a fan any more.

Man going on a trip to Chicago is crazy expensive as it is... And even more so when visiting the boatloads of craft breweries around the vicinity!

With the exception of New Glarus, which I just drove to the border, a town called Kenosha, for the sole purpose of purchasing New Glarus beer.

This is the list of beer I purchased at each place:

New Glarus
1x bottle of Wisconsin Belgian Cherry Red
6 pack containing: 2x spotted cow, 3x fat squirrel, 1x dancing man wheat
6 pack containing: 1x moon man, 2x totally naked, 3x two women
6 pack containing: 2x black top, 2x blonde, and 2 other random Wisconsin beers (1x polish moon from MKE, and 1x shine on from Central Waters)
6 pack of laughing fox
4 pack of imperial ipa (IIPA - thumbprint series)
4 pack of barley wine (thumbprint series)

3 Floyd's
6 pack of zombie dust
6 pack of jinx lager
6 pack of alpha king
6 pack of gumball head
1 very special super limited bottle of CABRA (barrel aged robert the bruce scottish ale) w/raspberries... numbered 40/579, waxed
1 bottle of moloko milk stout

Two Brothers (Tap Room)
1 bottle of pillar of salt white rye ale
Note: their cinnamon rootbeer is freakin' out of this world jaw-dropping awesome. Why I didn't bring home a growler of it is beyond me.

Flossmoor
1 bottle of finlaggin scotch ale (limited/waxed/bourbon barreled)
1 bottle of imperial schwartz (limited/waxed)

...which all ends up around $200 - I just wanted to spread what I had in a vast quantity and rare selections.

Oh yeah, and finally:
just brew it! wrote:If you're looking for an interesting beer bar (as opposed to a brewpub), check out The Map Room (http://maproom.com/).

I managed to go to the Map Room and have 2-3 beers. Very nice selection of draft and bottled beer. Thanks JBI!
