Re: TR BBQ ~IX~ Official Thread - August 11, 2012

Wed Aug 01, 2012 5:41 pm

Put me down in the "stranger things have happened" category. My family will be out of town that weekend so I am considering attending. I'd probably want to meet up with someone in Chicago and share a ride from there and back, since I don't think I'd be able to make it in one trip from Minneapolis on Saturday morning.
Being right doesn't matter if no one listens.

Sweet! Done. Its not a bad drive to do all at once but car pooling from Chicago would be nice since you'd need to leave at around 1AM - I hope you can make it happen. :D

Edit: BTW,I just sent out a round of PMs to a dozen or so people with varying degrees of success at attending the BBQ in the past. I just wanted to make sure it didn't fly under their radar.

Kevin - I'm leaving Chicago @ 8 or 9am on Saturday morning in a rental, but I'm flying out of Grand Rapids on Sunday.

Thus, I could get you there, but you'd be looking at some other form of transportation back, methinks...
Your ideas intrigue me; I would like to purchase stock in your company.

Told ya. I did some quick math and not including the niffty swag that's ~$1,200 worth of prizes. :o :o

BTW, here is that niffty swag I mentioned:

For the many of us going for the past 9 years, it's like our mecca. We go no matter what we face in life. If we have to quit our jobs to go, so be it. If we have to walk a week to get there, we do it. If we have to drive 8 strangers that you never met before, it's done.

When it comes down to it. If you're passionate enough to go, you CAN make things happen. No more excuses.

As of a couple of weeks ago it wasn't looking good for this year, but it looks doable now. Long story... I'll post again when it's definite (hopefully in the next day or two).

Hope it works out JBI - and I say that as someone who doesn't even care about beer a little.

*ducks*

One week to go folks! Please post to share what you will be bringing! :) I'll send PMs out to confirmed attendees this weekend or Mondayish.

Hey, more beer for the rest of us.

It's looking about 75% certain. I intend to bring beer (of course), both homebrewed and craft. How about some hummus and pita chips too?

2nd step of building a 25' long raft, install the flange for inflation and roll 40' of parchment paper down the middle to prevent the welding process from sealing all the sections off from each other.

Image

BTW, I sent out all the PMs to anyone on the list in the first post. If you didn't get a PM and want to attend you must post in the thread and let me know. :P

Also, I mentioned this in the PMs but wanted to restate it here - while you are still welcome to arrive at any time you wish we're expecting food to be ready around 2:00 this year which is a little later than normal. This is partly due to only having the cottage for one week and not getting as early of a start as normal on the cooking but it is also because of the fireworks we're planning for the evening and wanting to keep stomachs full as long as possible before they require another meal. Should the need arise there should be leftovers or we can always order pizza/cook brats again. ;)

Lastly, the items we still need people to bring, drinks (soda & water - not just beer!), veggies, fruit, condiments, deserts, evening snacks (brats & buns to go with them?), smores stuff, chips, ICE, etc... I sure there are other things I'm forgetting.

Email me at Gmail.

When I'm not drinking beer I typically drink something with caffeine and no sugar (e.g. Diet Mountain Dew). Not sure how others feel about that though, if nobody else is drinking diet sodas I can bring my own. (Reply also e-mailed, per your request.)

I've got a big wheeled cooler I can throw in the back seat and fill up with ice on the way from the hotel (or just empty the hotel's ice machines).

Same cell number.

Yes, SHOES will be taking in the cash for the fireworks. We tried to buy them a few weeks ago but the place closed before we go there (stupid post 4th of July hours). If he hasn't gotten them already we'll get them sometime this week. I think we're up to about $400 between everyone so far but any additional amount will be spend on more. :o

I'll also be on stand by to bring anything we need as I get close; I usually make multiple calls to drfish while enroute........if nothing is needed, then Ben and I usually make a cash donation, hopefully from cash I get selling the stuff I bring. :)

If your phone # ends in 38, then I still have it and will call / txt as usual while driving.

One thing I want to mention that we always seem to be light on it: Small tables and chairs

If a few people could bring one extra here and there, we will be all set.

We always seem to have a lot of people standing around, especially while we eat. I drive a small car, but can usually fit a small folding table and some chairs in it. Simple folding chairs and small tables to put the food and drink on will go a long way.

Here is a pic of the type of table and chairs I bring.
http://techreport.com/image.x/2011_8_8_ ... inners.jpg

Here is a video of showing whats it like when we are all starting to throw down on the food.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeAgBnBJhGM

It looks like a lot of chairs, but I think we will have more people this year, and not everyone drives in with a bunch of stuff. Those that fly in and others who cant bring furniture :) will appreciate those of us who can bring something.

If I knew for sure I was coming, I would have got the fireworks wholesale :) It would have been really cheap too since the wholesaler I know does not want to sit on his leftover for a whole year after the Fourth. Keep this in mind for the future. ;)
