Nexus 7

Wed Jul 18, 2012 1:37 pm

I received my Nexus 7 last night after selling my Kindle Fire. I have to say it runs very smooth and so far I am very happy with the purchase. It certainly is nice to have a tablet that can use Swype which was one of the things I didn't like about the Fire. Anyone else pick one up yet?

Also, I'm trying to find some good games to pick up on it. Taking advantage of the free $25 play store credit I already purchased Final fantasy 3 which looks really good. Any other recommendations for games?

I'm still waiting for mine. I ordered a 16GB the day it was announced but Google Canada has now bumped the ship date out another 1-2 weeks. :(

Keep the suggestions coming.

Look up "Gameloft" they make some fun games. The NOVA are a mix of halo and crysis, pretty fun. I have #2 on my playbook and spent a fair bit of time playing multiplayer. They make knockoff games but they are good knockoffs.

Triple Town and Puzzle Quest 2 are fun as hell.

Dead Space and Plants vs. Zombies are good.

Anyone know of a good CCG style card game?

Just got mine from Fedex (who are the worst of the major package carriers in my experience) after some negotiating on the phone with them to deliver instead of letting it sit in their local warehouse for another day but very pleased great device. Also wondering what to spend my credit on, any other useful apps worth a purchase. I like the look of riptide as I was a big Waverace 64 fan 15 years ago. Ive had an Android phone for two years and never paid for a single app. Its clever the $25 credit because I'm more likely to get in the habit of buying apps.
Did anyone else have theirs fly out of the top of the box as they tried to get it open?

I find it odd that Google still hasn't released the case for it on the website yet. You would think they would have released it on launch day as well.

Nexus 7 does not have an HDMI port. Is there an accessory or dock that provides HDMI?

There are spots for pogo pins to mate with the device, but the only dock I've seen so far is a charger-type dock with pictures leaked around the web. Assuming the covers on that page have the magnet to make it sleep when the cover is closed, I'll get one of those, too. My current cover doesn't make it sleep. Not a huge deal, but hey it'd be nice to make it wake up.

NordicHardware broke the story and has since pulled it at Google's request, but you can see them at Droid Life.

In other news, my griping about the phone UI is over:

Works great on mine. Hee-haw.
