Pandaboard ES

Tue Aug 07, 2012 9:24 pm

Just got my Pandaboard ES! Installed Ubuntu Precise using the image on Ubuntu website.
It is currently very slow (running Ubuntu 2D). Will install PowerVR drivers and see if that makes a difference.
But its fun to work on a fanless system! Will be using for porting some of my code to ARM.
Let me know if you want me to run any benchmarks or if you have any questions.
I will try and run some browser benchmarks (Firefox is installed), and will attempt to find a BLAS or equivalent to run some computational tests.

Any tips for reducing Unity's memory usage? Perhaps I should switch to Xubuntu.

For those who do not know what a Pandaboard is: http://pandaboard.org/
I have the Pandaboard ES which comes with TI OMAP 4460 and 1GB RAM.

I've got an original Pandaboard (not ES) sitting on my desk at work. It's a pretty neat ARM system. Mine runs QNX of course rather than Linux so can't help with the slow graphics.

Well I have been advised to get a faster SD card and try Lubuntu instead of Unity. Will try both of those.
Other than that, it is quite fun to run Ubuntu on a fanless system.

Posting from the pandaboard :D
Installed Xubuntu, removed Unity and things are a lot more snappy now. Chromium is running fine.
