Once I got my SL VM running and updated to 10.6.8, was able to purchase 10.8 and build USB key with Unibeast. Installed using onboard video, ran Multibeast and installed Chimera 1.11, rebooted, all looked OK. Popped in an old 9600GT, which worked fine, so I decided to see if the 580 would work.. and to my mighty surprise IT WORKED!
Besides having to re-partition my 1TB HDD to non-case sensitive (Steam, Diablo3, WoW won't install on case-sensitive), and my network card shutting down intermittently.. no issues.
I still want to verify that TRIM is enabled, SpeedStep is working, and full video acceleration is enabled.
Anyways, thought I'd share my success.
