One way to figure out your wattage need is to use a psu calculator.

Yeah, I could get away with a 400W supply (PSU calcs, reviews), hence 500/550W is fine.

Yes, that's the one I was remembering. Even ignoring the poor scores in a used state due to lack of TRIM back when that review was written, I didn't see any compelling performance reasons why you'd go with RAID over a larger single drive. However you've clearly done a bucket-load more research than me, so don't rule it out completely if you fancy experimenting. It's all part of the enthusiast experience! 8)
