TR Keeper Football 2012

Wed Aug 01, 2012 9:26 am

It's that time again. Invites have been sent to all of last year's Keepers managers. This year Yahoo has upgraded the team management tools to allow players to select their own keepers within the system, so this should be interesting. Important dates:

Keeper pick deadline: 03:00 EDT/12:00 PDT Sunday August 19th
Predraft (if necessary): Starts August 20th, must be done by August 29th
Live Draft: August 30th 21:30 EDT/18:30 PDT
Season Starts: September 5th
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Just signed up again...

Any reason why we can't trade draft picks? (especially for keepers?)

I'm not adverse to trading pre-draft picks but it's not the kind of thing I'll roll out without 100% agreement. Yahoo's tools allow trading, but only for the next season, so for this year the only possible alternative is pre-draft picks.

The problem I'm looking at is this: I'm pretty sure that Yahoo's keeper management system is based on the concept that every team will have the same number of keepers, in our case 3. If that's not the case then I get to spend a long evening pounding away at the draft order settings. To do a snake draft with keepers last year I had to input the first 3 rounds of the live draft myself, then manually assign each draft slot for the remaining 12 rounds and hope I hadn't screwed it up somewhere. I'm game if everyone else is and it was probably good foresight on my part to lock the keeper management system 11 days before the real draft.

That's fine.. maybe we can do it for next year.. this year we can do it informally, where if a trade is agreed upon, then it can happen manually.. i.e.:

1) I don't keep anyone, so I trade my first pre-draft pick to Captain Ned for player 1
2) Captain Ned keeps player 1 as his first pre-draft pick
3) During the draft, Captain tells me who he wants drafted for my first round pick
4) After the draft, I trade with Captain, his pick for player 1

Of course this means that both of us have to be at the draft... If there is a better way, I'm all for it..

I was thinking that trades would be solely in the pre-draft so that if players were involved I could place them on the appropriate roster. Live Draft starts with Round 4 as I will have input the first 3 rounds before we go to Live Draft. I can handle this in pre-draft only if everything is done & decided before Live Draft.

EDIT: What I'm really trying to avoid is any customization of the draft order in Yahoo for the Live Draft process as once you custom-order a single round you need to custom-order every round and that's just too bloody tedious and likely to end up with me making a draft order mistake that gets everyone pissed off.

Come to the BBQ and we can discuss.

I've got a 900 mile or so one-way (no way I want to have a US/CAN border inspector ask me about the potato gun) and yours is all desert Interstates. That said, if any MI locals have an opinion on where best to depart I-90 and aim for Grand Rapids / Holland I'm all ears.

Once you do, that leaves one spot open. If I don't hear from the Motor City Mashers by Wednesday, August 15 I'll declare the spot open and whoever wants in will get that roster to choose keepers from. Not sure if I can assign an existing roster to a new manager under the new Yahoo system, but I'll figure something out.

Just to be above-the-board I'm announcing now (despite the Yahoo system) that I'm keeping nobody and will work the pre-draft.

Still looking for one more person to complete the league. That's a mighty nice roster to be picking keepers from.

Since you've actually taken over the team, use the Yahoo tools to do that (My Team > Keepers).

Totally read the time wrong on the keeper deadline and thought I had time this morning.

I also thought the deadline was midnight tonight, but forgot that Yahoo does everything by Pacific time, so it ended up being 3AM PDT, or midnight Saturday. Whoever got caught out can post them here by midnight tonight (my original intention) and I can edit the teams manually.

EDIT: Make that midnight PDT, so 3:00 AM Sunday. Still working on the first cup of java.

OK, I've tweaked Yahoo to allow keeper picks until midnight tonight, PDT, or 3:00 AM EDT. Have at.

Re: TR Keeper Football 2012

OK, I'm now assuming that everyone has had a chance to set their keepers, and it's now time for pre-draft. Last year's standings look like this:

Evil Overlords - 3 keepers
Turbochargers - 0 keepers
EvenWorseNews Lions - 2 keepers
Bucket Heads - 2 keepers
Fumblerooski - 3 keepers
Taste Dwayne Bowe (now Beli-Check Yo-Self!) - 1 keeper
Motor City Mashers (now Space Beez) - 2 keepers
Dragons - 0 keepers
STIFFIE - 3 keepers
Captain's Keepers - 0 keepers

In keeping with our traditional practice and, assuming I get this right, the pre-draft looks like this:

Round 1

Captain's Keepers - Marshawn Lynch, RB-SEA
Dragons - Peyton Manning, QB-DEN
Beli-Check Yo-Self!
Turbochargers - Rob Gronkowski, TE-NE

Round 2

Turbochargers - Eli Manning, QB-NYG
Beli-Check Yo-Self! - Maurice Jones-Drew, RB-JAC
Dragons - Wes Welker, WR-NE
Captain's Keepers - Jimmy Graham, TE-NO

Round 3

Captain's Keepers - Andrew Luck, QB-IND
Dragons - Doug Martin, RB-TB
Space Beez - Andre Johnson, WR-HOU
Beli-Check Yo-Self! - Julio Jones, WR-ATL
Bucket Heads - DeMarco Murray, RB-DAL
Even Worse News Lions - Trent Richardson, RB-CLE
Turbochargers - Steven Jackson, RB-STL

Look this over and tell me where I went wrong before I officially open the pre-draft.

Hold Up I need to take a look at my team and set my keepers :o

I do not see where I can select my keeper picks (My Team / Keepers - does not exist)

Edit: I want to keep Adrian Peterson

OK, with that it's now pre-draft time. I'm going to start this season's failure by taking Marshawn Lynch, RB-SEA.

The Dragons are now up.
