It looks like Win 8 sales numbers will be sky high

Tue Sep 04, 2012 11:51 am

As I understand, there will be a promo pricing with Win8 costing just 70USD, and the next thing, that is really interesting, is that Win7 Pro downgrade will be available, it seems.

Although the article is very unclear, maybe it only works for OEM versions.

Low pricing does not necessarily mean high sales figures, unless the clueless masses cannot read the numerous articles claiming Win8 solves nothing and confuses more than it endears itself to users. It just is not a good fit for a typical desktop user.

Operating system "sales figures" are majorly inclusive of whatever was bundled on the computer that someone bought. I'd be more interested in true retail/non-bundle sales, but good luck ever seeing those.
A most unfortunate, Freudian, double entendre is that hotel named "Budget Inn."

Yeah, but Win8 Pro @ dicount price downgraded to Win7 Pro will be cheaper than Win7 Pro retail, and this is an interesting proposition.

It's kind of cute that you think the clueless masses are going to have a choice. Just like with Vista most of them are going to buy a new computer that comes with 8 and they'll have to like it or lump it. Just like with Vista some OEMs will offer Win7 as an option as long MS allows it, but the cheaper ones will come with 8 only because testing with and supporting 7 as well will eat too far into thin profit margins.

Tell the people you support to get a new machine before October, because otherwise they might well be out of luck.
