New PC need some help.

Postposted on Fri Aug 31, 2012 3:57 pm

I have been looking and looking into parts for a new gaming PC and a cheap-er one at that $500-600. i have looked into the Systems page and i have ghosted through a few topics here as well as other sites.

Long story short I have my eye on a MSI N550GTX-Ti Cyclone OC GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) 1GB GC and a Intel Core i3-2120 Sandy Bridge for my CPU.

also for some reason I cannot get Newegg to link my saved list in public viewing so I will just post each item here.

ASRock H77 Pro4-M LGA 1155 Intel H77 motherboard

RAIDMAX HYBRID 2 RX-630SS 630W PSU

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Mem

Western Digital Caviar Green WD10EARX 1TB IntelliPower 64MB Cache HD

ASUS 24X DVD Burner

I know I have not listed a case as I already have one in mind. its a

Antec Twelve Hundred V3 Black Steel ATX Full Tower so i dont need that added into cost as well as i already have a (mouse, monitor, keyboard, speakers) so i dont need any of that added in either.

My real worry is that all I have found will not work well together...just a little bit of a pessimist on this.

I would like to have this PC build picked at and I am very open to suggestions.

Besides that your build total is at $710 with what you've listed....

$600 builds don't include $160 cases. Not sure why you want a full-ATX case anyway
Don't run your os on a 5400rpm hdd if at all possible
I have that ASUS DVD burner and it makes an annoying "initializing" noise on power-up. I prefer the LG one since it is silent during startup.
People here aren't going to like your PSU choice either. Look for a Corsair/Antec/SeaSonic unit.

I don't know, but I just don't find a I3 very good value. Try at least an I5 or older (and thus hopefully discounted) I7 2700.
A Nvidia 550ti is not really a good performer, better to save up and aim for at least a 560ti.
Also, at this day and age a 128gb SSD is really a no-brainer, as it will dramatically alter the responsiveness of your system.
My recommendation would be to spend less on the case and more on the other parts of your system.

Asus UX31E with i5 and 256gb SSD.

This XFX 450 W (made by Seasonic) for $53+5 would be a pretty good deal, and amply sufficient for an i3 + a 550 Ti.

Is there a big reason you're going with the Antec 1200? It's a huge case to put a micro-ATX board in.

You already have a mouse + keyboard + monitor... could you reuse the optical drive too?

Gerbil in training....the title fits.

Ok so i know i need to "replace" a few/lot of things so i will get started researching again lol. I have had a gaming rig b4 till the old lady took it over a couple years back. Now i am just wanting to build my own as the other was a prebuilt. Shame on me im sure just did not have the time then. Im not going for outstanding graphics like skyrim and such(IMO) just something that can play a few older games and heck some GW and D3.

What DPete27 said.

$70 1 TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3
$70 -20 code "EMCNBHB23" Antec Three Hundred Illusion
$60 -10 code "EMCNBGJ22" -25MIR Corsair CX500V2
etc.

Consider the Econobox in the system guide as a starting point.

The econobox is more than up to the tasks you describe. It'll handle Skyrim pretty well too.

Since you already have a case, throw some money at an SSD.
Depending on budget, you can either pick up a 128GB SSD and use that for the OS and applications, or you can spend a little more on a Z77 motherboard and then use a dirt-cheap 32GB SSD as a cache with Intel's SmartResponse driver in Windows. The pure SSD is quicker but requires more management, the SmartResponse cached drive is a big improvement over an un-cached drive and it's much more convenient than trying to keep junk and downloads off the C: drive.

Bitfenix Outlaw and Antec 302 are both great cases, cost $50 or less, and will suit your build perfectly.
