Hey
I was recently given a deal on the following combo:
i5 3470
DH77DF
16GB Kingston DDR3 1300Mhz (cheap ram)
The local wholesaler is my friend and offered them to me.
Now my HTPC/couch gaming PC is:
i5 [email protected]
DFI MI P55-T36
4GB Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz
EVGA GTX 570HD
I have also an aging ITX system based on an Intel Atom 330 that is my torrentbox, servers a few blogs and acts as tier 1 4TB nas (I have another bigger nas for important data), my plan was to replace this atom system with the new combo and make and AIO router/nas/game server/web server using some virtualization software but I think it might be overkill.
So the question is, would the i5 3470 at stock speeds (can't overclock as it's a non K part and an H77 board) be faster than the i5 760 @ 3.6GHz for gaming? I guess it would run cooler but that's not an issue, my small rig is cool and quiet enough, I was considering replacing the mobo/cpu from my couch gaming PC for the new one and use the older for the home server/nas/etc. I want to keep the faster combo as gaming PC of course.
