Anyone overclock the crap out of your 8150 for your normal desktop build? I kind of want to do it. Winter is coming up and my heater is broken. Seriously though, it seems to run pretty decent once you take it up to 4.5+ghz. Anyone doing that long term?

I did something like this back in 2004. I was only able to hit 3.6Ghz but it kept my house warm. Now that it has four Modules instead one, more cache, and an onboard memory controller I'm sure it is much more impressive vs back in the day.

you had an fx 8150 in 2004? impressive :)

surprised more people arent running overclocked 8150 setups. i know it's probably loud, hot and uses lots of power, but since the price cut it's probably not a terrible choice if you wanna support AMD.

Yes back when AMD called it a P4e or was it Intel? If they made those on 32/22 nano they'd scream now... :P

The problem is it's not really worth it if you are an overclocker, get AMD's older chip or go intel.

Not overclocking mine since it is my work desktop, but if I load up all 8 cores it gets moderately loud even at stock speeds. I've got the fan controls set to kick it up to full speed at 55C; under heavy load the temp sits right at 55C and the fan constantly cycles up and down between about 3/4 speed and full speed.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

If you really really want to buy an AMD product, at least wait for Vishera to come out. It is supposed to come out in a few weeks. Should improve things by 10-20% over the 8150 at least.
