I know, it's pretty mall-ninja, but I did get rid of a tactical 5.56 in the process, so I broke even. Except, 220 gr. subsonic FTW!
I don't get the appeal of the .300 Blackout. The Russians came out with a better version of it back in 1945; they called it the 7.62 x 39mm. :P

The .300 Whisper is an interesting round in its subsonic variety, though.

I was looking at the 625 dollar ones (service grade) for both myself and as a gift to my brother.

I kind of wonder about scoping them...I know that's a horrible thought to a purist but it'd make a damn nice 200-300 yard rifle that way. I wonder how to do that without marring the rifle and messing it up

Ugh. Don't do that. Service grade M1s aren't tack drivers anyway, expect 4 MOA from an untuned, used rifle. My correct grade M1 shoots 3 MOA if I do my part. Putting a scope on a stock battle rifle is like putting tits on a pig: it look might look nice, but doesn't serve any real function, and it annoys the pig.

I still love my AK. but it looks like the 300 blackout has more energy @ 300 meters. And it took 1st place at the multi-gun nationals last year. What's not to like? :P

As near as I can tell, the blackout is basically a SAAMI-ized whisper (Same diameter bullets, same weight, similar velocities), and the BO chamber is fully compatible with Whisper ammo. (like .223 in a 5.56, as I understand it). Both come in 220 subsonic. Remington loads for the BO. :D

Re: Gun prOn!

So I managed to get to the range last Saturday and take the FS2000 for it's initial session. It's really different than most anything I've shot before. It's slightly heavier than I expected, for starters. It's not bad and certainly lighter than the other guns at the range that day (an SKS, a couple hunting rifles and a surplus Russian sniper rifle - all with wood furniture). Recoil is minimal and noise isn't as bad as a stubby M4 barrel.

It takes some getting used to the manual of arms. You can lock the bolt back like an MP5, but you don't want to drop it closed on a live magazine. It will jam if you do that. It doesn't lock open when you run empty, either. So when it goes "click", you yank the mag and put in a fresh one then cycle the bolt. The safety is in a great place, but it takes some getting used to. The mag release lever is just genius. As you grab the mag, you hit the release lever. So it's one smooth motion to grab & pull it out.

It's really clever how it does the forward eject thing. The bolt going forward is what drives the cartridges forward, so the first few shots, nothing comes out of the gun. Likewise, I discovered a couple empties still in the gun a few days later when I was showing it to friends and cycled the bolt whilst I was checking that it was unloaded. A couple empties sprang forth when the bolt went forward. Surprised the hell out of me.

But enough about the past... inspired by StuG, I went searching online for bullpup kits. After nearly snagging an SGWorks rifle, I started reading up on kits for 10/22s. While an SKS is probably in my future, I'm trying to keep the number of calibers in the house down to as few as possible. I already had a 10/22 so I picked up a 2nd one in a trade for my last remaining 9mm. The 2nd 10/22 was intended to be a project rifle because... well, why the hell not?

So tonight I went from this:

To this:

I appreciate good engineering and this stock is just fantastic. It's a JR Bunting all-aluminum stock that has this ingenious trigger transfer mechanism that is better than any bullpup I've ever seen. Light-years better than the trigger on my G22. The claim is that it faithfully reproduces whatever trigger you put in there, so it will take aftermarket match triggers, two stage triggers, etc. I believe it, as playing with the mechanism before I put the rifle in was smooth as glass. The stock trigger is decent enough for my purposes, but I might spring for something sweet for the holidays.

Well, I did indeed buy the Hi-Point 45. Found a "used", unfired one for 129. Took it out for a spin last Sunday and it performed more reliably than my brothers Glock (his failed to eject the brass once, mine had no failures). O_o

Anyway, other than the weight, I actually rather like it. Fits in my giant hands well. It aint gonna win any accuracy awards, but I could easily hit a human at a range of up to 20 feet, and that's all I need it for. Oh, well, that, and destroying broken computer monitors. :D

I just purchased a model 1911 .45 replica and I noticed .45 ammo seems to be semi rare in my area. Anyone have any recommendations on bulk ammo places online?

went to a gun show yesterday just to shop...holy crap people were charging absurd prices. 800 for a used mini-14 comes to mind  Or 1500 for a springfield 1911 (again, used).

Here's my Walther PPKS made some time in the 1980s. It's pretty much brand new, to my knowledge its only had a few rounds fired through it. Nice little pistol though.

Seemed like a fitting background given that it's the James Bond gun. :D

Do you just keep hundreds of dollars in cash around the house? Geez. :o

Also, if you wanna get technical, the PPK/S is *not* Bond's gun. Bond has used both a PP and a PPK (both in 7.65mm Browning, not 9mm Kurz as is yours), but never a PPK/S. The PPK/S was designed to get around some ridiculous gun importation restrictions. It has the longer grip of the PP and the shorter barrel/slide of the PPK.

Smith and Wesson produces PPKs under license by Walther in the US now, which is a better way of getting around the importation restrictions. I'd like to get one, someday.

Don't usually have that kind of cash lying around, just sold a car to an old guy who paid in hundreds.

Good little pistol, I need to buy a holster for it. It would make a much nicer carry pistol compared to my subcompact glock. That thing is too fat. Doesn't like hollow points though.

So is .308 military surplus ammo still over $0.40 a round? I remember fondly the old days of $0.14/round south African battle packs.

We'll take the M1911 to the stars when we finally get there.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.
