The physical DVD drive is set as a dvd drive on the guest os. The drive name is E:. I inserted a DVD onto the drive and attempted accessing it, then the following messages were returned:

E: is not accessible. Incorrect function.

Is the drive already mounted on another virtual machine?

Also, what are your host/guest/virtualization program?

Pretty difficult to help without additional info. What are the host and guest OSes? What virtualization tool are you using? What are you trying to do -- play a video DVD (CSS protected or not?), read a data DVD, something else (burn)?
(this space intentionally left blank)
just brew it!

The host is Windows 8 Pro and virtualization is done by Hyper-V which comes with Windows 8 Pro.
The quest os is Windows XP Pro SP3.

The XP is the only guest os, so that it is not mounted on any other guest os.

I want to access DVD drive to install application softwares, re-install OS, etc.

Edit: After posting the above I tried it again and found it working now. Believe me I tried many times before. Thanks everyone for trying to help me.
