Asus P6T SE - Max 24GB of RAM?

Hey guys,

Got this mobo: http://www.asus.com.au/Motherboards/Int ... ifications

According to the link above, it says its max RAM is 24GB - it has six DIMM slots - could I put in 32GB of RAM if I got myself 4 x 8GB sticks?

24GB is the limite. I've got a P6T and 24GB is the limit for that board and socket--otherwise I'd be at 32GB instead of 24GB.

Turns out 32GB packs are cheaper than 24GB down here in Oz. If I put 32GB in there, will it only recognise 24GB in Windows?

That 3½-year old LGA1366 X58 motherboard may not like newfangled 8 GiB DIMMs.

Damn. My friend who owns the board wants USB3.0 - perhaps it's best to upgrade board too?

You should be able to find a PCIe USB 3.0 card for a whole lot less than a new workstation motherboard and processor would cost.

I was just thinking the exact same thing! I just gotta find a cheap set of 24GB RAM - very hard to come by. Even a 12GB set is a bitch to find.

You see a bazillion deals on pairs of 4 GiB DIMMs. You just need three of those packages to get to six 4 GiB DIMMs.

Wait! I found some cheap 24GB down here - strangely enough, 1066MHz was exspensive ($210), but 1600MHz was $60 less?
