anyone watching BSG Blood & Chrome?

Postposted on Sun Dec 02, 2012 12:17 pm

was wondering if anyone was watching the online episodes of Blood & Chrome?

it's been ok so far although having a Cylon writhing in agony seemed...... wrong, for those who didn't know Machinima is showing it and it's all over YouTube as well.

they are up to episode 8 ... they are serials around 8-10 minutes long which is growing a little annoying but thankfully I got into the series a little late so that I could watch most of it before I had to wait each week for another clip.

Frak yeah i have been watching it! :)

Looks interesting and the 8-10 minute episode are annoying. It will be on Syfy in Feb. I will definitely be checking it out along with watching whatever additional 10 min episodes.

I thought it was very interesting having the cylon scream in pain. I would think pain would increase A.I. But its a TV show.
I am fraking sick on the 10 min shows but they are very interesting and action packed with a seemingly good storyline.

I watched eps 1&2, then I completely forgot to follow up for more. Too much work, not enough BSG. What episode are they up to, now?

Yeah, I'm watching. Not entirely sure what the plan is for this, aside from being able to say they made the show.

It's very much not what was originally planned.

Absolutely yes!

The mini webisodes are kind of annoying, but understandable that they're not posting complete fully edited episodes on YouTube.

Yeah, umm. About that? This is all there is. In February we get the edited-together one-time one-shot 2 hour version, same content.

This was originally planned to be a series, but after Caprica, Syfylis wants nothing to do with any more BSG. It is now a 2 hour special event, being pre-released as 10 minute webisode slices.

I figured there might be a bit more editing, but... /shrug

As far as Caprica, the problem wasn't that it was BSG -- the problem was that it was boring. This looks a lot more interesting.

Can't watch it on youtube... I get the "this is not available in your country" BS that is racist against me for not being american.... :D (I am joking about considering this racist)

Anyway... watched it elsewhere up to episode 8. It's pretty good. When are the last two bits available?

I'm planning on ordering the Blu Ray so long as it's in full 1080p glory, the lowered res is pretty weak.

regarding the show I was really liking it until the last episode.... with any movie, series it's easy to grab an individuals attention, the difficulty is in keeping it to the end, with Blood & Chrome the first 7 episodes are all buildup.... no commitment.

the next episode can't hide the "big reveal" if they can't start answering the questions they've posed the show will become pointles..... and to be honest I'm worried the "big reveal" will be a crappy one.

on a side note this is a prequel so why do the cylons look different from the classic cylons of the original series... not a big deal but something I've been wondering about, assumed these ones were like a scientist caste or something and not meant for combat.

I'm guessing the scientist lady is going to upgrade these guys to the people looking cylons... that's why all those body parts were lying around...

hmmmm trying to remember now, the "final 5" gave the cylons resurrection tech..... at the time Cylons were working on human form trying to gain immortality that way but eventually gave it up in favor of resurrection.

I always got he impression the "5" brought human form to the table as well..... that may be my mistake though given the Cylons were the ones that modded the creatures that slaughtered the commando team.

on a side note the whole "killer ice eels" that are immune to everything but a shotgun was stupid and yet another example of how worthless colonial weapons are at destroying much of anything including Cylons which is what they were designed to do.... ok brief rant about an ongoing absurdity that the series can't seem to get past.

another silly I found a little funny was the colonials choosing to turn on their flashlights while searching for the cylons given they have night vision tech and nothing says "I'm over hear" like a flashlight sweeping and reflecting all over the place in a dark building.

good ending to the series, excellent plot twist.

was angry & thought it was cliche until the debrief.

I found that to be really cliche / annoying, it was what followed that I liked.

it's become obvious that it's harder to do a prequel than it is to do a standalone or a continuation.

we already know the ending... Adama is going to survive, all main characters will survive if introduced, The war will end in peace with the Cylons.... their is no drama on that front, this reduces every mission down to success or failure on it's own and whether or not 2ndary characters will survive.

add to that a real need to avoid conflicting with the previous series in so many un-forseen ways and the task has a much higher risk level.

having watched this "pilot", while good and a nice add on to the series, it wasn't great, BSG is still plagued with way too many technical flaws that are usually skipped for the sake of style, I don't believe they've ever sat down and said "ok what are the Cylons individual abilities and how do we make certain to write around them".... standard night vision, Cylons that don't hesitate, smart Cylons, ppl who ignore common sense is a real problem for the show.

I watched all of them. Great stuff; I wish Syfy had picked it up and made it a full-blown series.

It had all the great qualities of the first two seasons of Galactica.

the first 2 seasons of BSG were inconsistent at best, the whole series was, moments of excellence followed almost immediately by moments of stupidity, a friend of mine loved the stupid to me parts while hating the moments of excellence to me episodes.

in conversations with him I've always found that interesting, he was literally looking for almost the exact opposite from the show that I was... uncanny.

after 2 seasons the conflicting views caused audience fatigue which alienated both explaining why so many stopped watching the show as it dragged/stumbled along to it's finally.

Clone, can you expand on what you liked vs what your friend liked? I'm curious if you two saw what I saw and which of you two hated what I hated.

I loved the pilot, I loved the first episode where they had to jump every half hour or so, I loved it when they found Pegasus when they planned / fought huge battles, I hated the election, I hated the trial of Baltar episodes, I was disappointed by the "big reveal" because it conflicted with "they have a plan", I was disappointed with the technical inconsistencies in the series.... Cylons that were indestructible until it served for them to fail, colonial weapons completely worthless at destroying Cylons until they needed to.

he loved the Cylon occupation episodes on New Caprica, he absolutely loved the "big reveal" where viewers found out that Colonel Tie was a Cylon, Starbuck's husband was a Cylon, he was saddened when Starbuck died and then it blew his mind when Starbuck came back from the dead, he liked the trial of Baltar including the speech that Will Adama did.

I've no tolerance for glaring plot holes, random realities designed to suit each episode while conflicting with previous ones, absurdity, I'm a credibility junky.... I like ... no make that I love when writers take the time to write a plausible story vs writers that sit around and debate what will shock and awe regardless of what makes sense..... the difference between a polished script and one mired with cheap tricks used to hide flaws.

he on the other hand doesn't care about details, he's chosen admittedly & repeatedly to go into films, view episodes with a blank slate every time and he will forgive any bad story if the CGI is good enough..... although surprisingly he's not much of a fan of Micheal Bay's work.

I think I side more with your friend than you- well, I liked both the personal drama arcs as well as the broad, dramatic arcs. I'm aware that I'm quite forgiving of the plot holes I see; tearing apart my entertainment isn't entertainment, even if you can't miss some of the mistakes :).

Oh, I'm much less likely to recommend when there are obvious plot holes; I'm not pretending that they don't exist, I'm just not letting them bother me.

That said, Blood and Chrome was pretty painful; though I do think that it hits the intended mark. Only recommended for fans of the series.

I fully agree with that, I watch a lot of Sci - Fi, I tend to try and support Sci - Fi in general because much of it's so weak.

regarding Blood & Chrome I agree while I liked some aspects, especially the ending debrief the rest was weak, the true testament to any show is it's replayability and despite a 2nd try I managed just a half hour into a 2nd viewing before I stopped no longer caring.

my hopes for Sci Fi are focused now on the new Tom Cruise one Oblivion, Pacific Rim while I believe will be ok likely will be too..... anime for me, I've really enjoyed previous Guillermo Del Toro movies but some choices were made that got shown in the trailer that have lowered my expectations for the film... which might be a good thing, don't know, can only hope.
