PS2 broken

Mon Dec 10, 2012 11:12 am

Hi all,

my housemate bought a PS2 off ebay for some nostalgia gaming, but has somehow broke it. It wont boot up at all, just sits there with a flashing green and red LED.
bit of a long shot, but anyone know any fixes?

Thanks, Charlie.

Most likely: Board overheated... probably dead and unrecoverable. Get a emulator. :/
Least likely: Power pack fried... try a VCR power cord or something....

I friend used to do repairs and mods on Ps2 back 10 years ago, and depending on what model he has, the big version or the slim newer model..there are usually only a few pieces that tend to go bad. The 2 main ones are the drive, which is unlikely, and the power supply..especially if the fan has died in it. As long as the unit is not a model 4 version or older, those tended to have more board issues..later models were much more bulletproof. First thing to check is if the fan is running and if the unit is clogged with dust. If the unit has both issues it it very possible that it may have overheated and damaged some parts.
