Recommend me some IEM's

Tue Dec 11, 2012 9:25 pm

I've always just bought some $5 in ear phones from a gas station or something for my listening habits which on a mobile device is typically just podcasts. I have gotten frustrated with the provided durability and Noise isolation provided by said phones. So my question is, at the sub $150 range what is the best set of IEM's that you can recommend for fit/noise isolation and durability?

Have at:

What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

The Brainwavz M2s are a pretty good deal all around - good sound, aluminum construction, thick sturdy cable, and quite affordable.

The rubber strain reliefs are known to have weak glue, though...but nothing a drop of your common cyanoacrylate superglue can't fix.
Ad astra per aspera.

Anythingbutipod headphone reviews for some alternative headphone/earbuds.
As per bluepiranha's Brainwavz M2 selection, abi review on link.
I'm personally happy with my pair of refurb'd Sony mdr-ex300's i got for ~$15(think they originally retailed about $80) about 3 years back, just after they discontinued the model.
The ex300's perform relatively close enough to my soon to be 7 year old sony v700 dj headphones. :)

Good luck finding something that you think works for what you wanna pay and lug around daily/weekly or whatever.
probably drinking some tea.

Anything from Etymotic is going to have great isolation due to the earplug. I have a pair from a few years ago and love them. Good flat response too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. :) Etymotics do seem like the best bet for my usage model. Any one had experience with the MC3's?
