Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio Front Panel?

Fri Dec 14, 2012 4:29 pm

I got tired of the on board card on my mobo - and upgrade (I think it was an upgrade) to a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio...BUT there is no way to hook up Front Panel Audio ports ... is there something I can get that I can remedy this , so I can use headphones when my people are sleeping...and I want to use my computer?

Have you considered using a splitter and an extension cable?

The Creative page for that card claims that it has the usual "Intel HD Audio Compatible Front Panel Header (2x5pin)". Glancing at the photo on that page, it looks like it's right below the Sound Blaster logo on the card (naked pins, no shroud). Can you double check to see if these pins are present?

Yep it has the pins. When I connect that header, the rear panel doesn't work any longer. Only the front panel works.

My case has a front panel cable that has the Azelia and HD ends on it.

I would consider them if I knew what they were. :)

Is that without headphones plugged into the front port? Creative's software disables the rear ports if there's something plugged into the front panel's headphone jack. Of course, you may have already known that... just checking.

You need one of these and maybe one of these.

The male connector of the first cable linked above plugs into your audio line out jack on the back panel. The speakers plug into one of the female connectors, and the headphones plug into the other one.

If the headphone cord isn't long enough to reach around to the back of the computer, use the second cable linked above to extend it.

This assumes your speakers have their own hard-wired volume control that you can turn down when you want to listen through headphones only.

If you end up ordering those cables you may want to browse around the site to see if there's anything else you need. Otherwise you're going to be paying like $8 in shipping on less than $2 worth of merchandise.

I paid $3 just the other day for less than $3 of merchandise (USPS option). I was almost willing to go to Amazon or Fry's simply on principle of not paying more shipping than merchandise.
