[Solved] No HDMI Output After Waking

Wed Jan 09, 2013 10:16 pm

I recently upgraded to a ZOTAC AMP! GTX 660 Ti but I've encountered a frustrating issue: after the computer sleeps and I wake it up, I don't get a display signal over HDMI (I even get the Windows chime when a device is disconnected). I didn't have this problem with my old card (560 Ti 448). I've tried reinstalling drivers, made sure my PSU was adequate (650w), and double checked that there aren't any monitor driver updates I'm missing (Asus doesn't provide drivers for my monitor apparently). I thought the card was defective, so I successfully RMA'd, but the new replacement card is doing the same dang thing. I figured that the odds I got two defective cards were slim, so I tried a spare DVI cable and THAT works. I can get HDMI to come back if I unplug my computer for 5~10 min, but DVI seems to always work (typing right now). I'm stumped. Anyone else run into this?

Edit: The problem has been solved, it was a bad HDMI cable. Thanks again everyone.

You mentioned checking for updated monitor drivers. Did you check for newer GPU drivers too?
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Its possible a honky HDMI cable or adapter could be a problem. I hate that NV puts Mini hdmi connectors on there cards

Order a nice mini HDMI to HDMI cable from monoprice....nice to have a spare around anyways.

I've seen this issue on outdated GPU drivers.

Also on cheap HDMI cables (ie bought for under $10 at walmart or dollar store) as well (HDCP handshake not successful on wakeup so no signal.)

Cheap doesn't always mean bad.

Update your video drivers, Wildcat.

Agree... I did state price AND locations (Walmart or dollar stores)
I've had great cables in that price range and garbage too :-)

I'll try another HDMI cable. I hadn't thought to try one since I don't have this problem with the card this replaced (560 Ti 448), I had to put the old one back in while my first 660 Ti was being RMA'd and sleep worked just fine  .

I've used two driver versions with this card, 310.70 and 310.90, which is the most current.

I'll update once off of work after trying a different HDMI cable. Thanks for the responses!

I swapped in a different HDMI cable, put the compy to sleep for dinner and it successfully woke up. I won't declare total victory until I can go at least tomorrow without any display issues but it looks like the HDMI cable may have been the culprit. (I couldn't get an HDMI signal the very first time I slept/woke up my computer last night with the replacement 660 Ti.) I wouldn't have tried a new cable had it not been for the suggestions in this thread, thanks again. :D
