Is GTX 650 Ti really worth it?

Fri Jan 11, 2013 4:10 am

Hi guys, im gonna ask again if buying GTX 650 ti worth it?

My system specs:

4GB ram
Intel Core i3 3.4 GHz
Asus P8 HLE 61-M
Screen resolution : 1024 x 768

1. Would it not bottleneck my pc?
2. Can i overclock it easily if i buy the OC version?
3. if i overclock this video card, would i need cooler?
4. would this card surpass or match HD 7850? (because acording to game debate, hd 7850 card is the best.)

Please share your knowledge with me on this one. Thanks.

RRP 650Ti ~$150

RRP 7850 ~$200

What is the comparison? If you have 200 get the 7850. If you have 150, get the 650ti.

Personally I'd be inclined to get the 650Ti and put the extra $50 towards saving for a cheap 1080p TN screen. e.g. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824116580

Though your question is better answered if you list what games / purpose the gpu is for as some games favor nvidia, and others amd. Some are CPU bound and others are GPU heavy.
Core i7 4770K | eVGA GTX1080 FTW ACX 3.0 | 16GB DDR3 2133mhz | Asus Z87-PLUS | Corsair HX650 | Fractal Define R4 | Samsung 840 Pro 256GB | Windows 10 x64

Buy Corei3 3220 + HT. High Prof. And Sapphire HD 7870 or HD 7850.

Low Resolution Play Video Games.

Just want to second what yogibbear wrote. At 1024x768 both of these cards are way way way overkill. You need to put money into a monitor, and at 1920x1080, both cards are sufficient.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Edit:
I had composed a full page of hardware recommendations for you, but I don't help people who steal software.

Yeah, probably not a good idea to go around posting on the internet that you steal games since it's ILLEGAL.

FWIW, Since you already have a Sandy Bridge i3 (not a bottleneck) save your pennies for a 7850 2GB if you need a GPU. The only reason I gave you that much advice is because you can come to the same conclusion by reading TR's review of the 650Ti. Also, seriously consider a new 1920 x 1080 monitor.

Guess that THQ Humble Bundle was just too pricey for some. Ditch the torrent and go legal ... it's the in thing to do these days.

At the $200 price point (Zotac GTX 660 still available for $194 after MIR), I'd definitely pick the 660 over the 7850. Faster, smoother and more application support (CUDA, Photoshop, Premiere, etc). The 7850 has potentially more GPU computational power (depending on task), but if you're after pure gaming, I'd pick up that Zotac at the current asking price.

+1 if I could...

With Steam, Humble Bundles, and Kickstarter (and even free to play versions of AAA games), you're living in a golden age of being able to vote with your wallet.
On second thought, let's not go to TechReport. It's infested by crypto bull****.

If you're playing at that resolution you might as well just buy a console.

Agreed

Or if he's staying at 1024 x 768 resolution just get a 7770 for $100 after MIR and be done with it. (this review uses the 7770 at 1080p and it does just fine)

Yeah I don't think it matters at 1024x768, if you're sticking with that resolution I'd say get a 7770 or 650 and use the savings to actually buy some of those games. If you don't like Big Content's policies just be careful about what games you buy and at what price, there are a lot of games out there that I've wanted to play but didn't because the developer/publisher (usually the latter) pissed me off, and many more like Skyrim that I've only played due to getting lucky with a spectacular deal.

thanks for all of your replies and sorry about my activity of stealing games. Im from philippines and yeah, its hard to find original games here and even if you find some, its too damn expensive. Im just a student and i save for my hardware. Maybe soon, if i get the work, or if i had saved enough to make my hardware good, ill buy my own game. Why wouldnt i buy it if inly i can afford. So chill out guys, and thanks for the discussion.
