How to tell Linux to stop printing ATA error messages?

I have a faulty hard drive, and Linux won't shut up and boot the rest of the system from CD! It just keeps stalling trying to read the hard drive. I need the rest of the system to boot up and run some utils on the faulty hard drive - so how can I tell the Linux kernel to stop hogging the console so I can actually get something done? Is there a special option I have to boot with in GRUB?

If you are trying to boot from CD that should be a BIOS boot option. Why are you even getting to GRUB?

Well... I solved the thing by just using DOS and disk utilities made for DOS. Yes, I know, ISOLINUX, not GRUB...
