Yeah, today isn't quite as cold but yesterday my phone said it was 1F when I got up. I know it's worse farther north, but that is plenty cold for me.

The basic rule is that no matter how cold you think it is, somewhere is getting even colder weather.

Bah, record here in VT is -50F. Back in the late '70s I once walked the the 2 miles to high school in -30F because none of the cars would start (carburetors and cold just don't mix and young'uns will never understand that in today's fuel-injected world).

At those temperatures, fuel injection still doesn't get the oil moving any faster. I once heard someone with friends in Alaska describe how to reliably start a car outdoors at -50F: Step one, place a baffle under the car to deflect air into the engine bay. Step two, aim a forced-air propane shop heater at the base of the car. Step three, go find something else to do for the next hour.

After that, the car will start and run stably for the rest of the day, but the heater will never provide you with any help, so bundle up appropriately and leave it off.

Was sub-zero here yesterday morning, and barely got out of the single digits all day. It's 18F right now; practically a heat wave!

My wife looked up the conditions in northern MN (where her sister lives) yesterday. Was something like -25F. :o

Pretty sure we're both in Chicagoland, so I know exactly how you feel.

I have relatives in Anchorage, AK. To my surprise, they're actually at 30F right now. I guess being near the water has a big advantage

I don't believe in the part of the thermometer below 0 F. It doesn't exist anymore, and never should again

Well, at least one thing enjoys the cold. The hood scoop on my turbo Subie funneling very cold air to the intercooler has done wonders for instantaneous power response this past couple of days.

What is this in reference to?

Generally, I prefer darker overall looks because they feel easier on the eyes unless the contrast to lighter text isn't great.

You should select hot pink windows on top of a solid yellow desktop background. Then your UI will look like some of the 3.11-for-Workgroups lab machines we cruelly pranked back in high school (seeing as how true roaming profiles didn't exist yet, and most users didn't know how to change the settings).

Back in those bad old days one of my co-workers actually used Hot Dog Stand on a daily basis.

Now to try to replace the OLED screen in the daughter's Zune HD and get everything back in the case without breaking it more. Was surprised that when it fell out of her pocket and was run over by the wife's CR-V that the screen (which is buried under a clear glass touchscreen panel) was the only thing that broke.

Sorry, but I love mine. I've never used it as an ecosystem, but just as a storage dump for stuff I already own. In that regard, it works perfecty.

Hmm, wonder what exercise the ANG has on tonight. In the last 15 minutes every F-16 at the ANG base (a/k/a Burlington International Airport) has climbed into the sky on a column of shock diamonds and over my house. Must be Scotland is flying over a real haggis for Burns Night tonight and they're the escort.

I mae share a birthday wit Bobby Burns, bit I nae hae his talent.

So my wife has gotten really heavy into trying to get a referendum passed to build a new Jr. High. She made what I really think is a good website, but she wants feedback. Take a look

http://www.conradyyes.com/

She wants feedback on the look and feel, in addition to any other thoughts people might have

Needs a picture of the building. There are several links with space after the text still underlined. For example, on the News Room page the first link under NPD 117 Articles, the Cook County Clerk's website link under Voter Info, and the space before "clicking here" on that same Voter Info page in the Register to Vote section. There's some slight variation in the name of the group. Conrady YES and Conrady Yes. Just want to make sure that's consistent. It's pretty rough on the Contact Us page, and it's because it's typed out several times right together. And I get it's under construction still, just hoping I can help. :) There are a few other typos, let me know when it's closer to ready and I'd be glad to go through it.

I like the colors and the layout, and the fonts are very easy to read. I'd just love it if you could show "me" (the potential voter) why. And maybe that's already planned. Good luck!

And the Zune is alive. Lots of little fiddly bits, but nothing too challenging.

Nope. I'm too close to the lake and too low in elevation. That place in the vid has about 1000 ft of elevation or more on me and sees much higher winds.

Hey, we've already filled the skies with space junk. Seems to me we're running behind on cluttering up the deep oceans; all we've got so far is some shipwrecks, and the occasional oil spill...

this year's flu is evil. 20 hours of not being able to hold fluids down and I wind up in an urgent care center with a saline drip, shots to control the vomiting, and sipping pedilate to rehydrate. Apparently that long without fluids while you're sick is a really bad thing.

It's amazing what that course did. I'm still taking pain relievers and anti-vomit drugs so I can drink and eat a bit, but that's helped a lot.
