Phenom II Cache frequency/bandwidth

Sun Feb 03, 2013 9:08 pm

When I tried out the new memtest86 today, it reported the L3 cache on my 955BE to have 5202 MB/s and my memory(ram) was at 6640 MB/s.

Shouldn't the CPU cache be faster than the ram?

Does this L3 cache have a standard frequency? Can the L3 cache be OC'd?

I do not trust the bandwidth numbers that Memtest86 reports.

Cache's advantage is latency, not bandwidth.

I believe the L3 operates at the northbridge frequency of 2GHz.
