2013 Superbowl commercials..... suck this year?

Postposted on Wed Jan 30, 2013 11:38 am

hey look I remember that Audi commercial with the vampires and the new headlights... great stuff, the VW commercial with the kid trying to use "the force", I was rooting for him, the fat dog that slims down to chase the car, the Budweiser Donkey, the Chrysler add with M&M introducing the 200.

so anyway with that in mind I'm looking to see how the 2013 commercials are shaping up.... and they suck.

the VW commcercial has a don't worry be happy theme... it sucks.
the Toyota commercial has been done before although I did like the Daughters battle cry that was it one grin.
Mercedes commercial? sucked.
Audi's commercial has been done before.
the Coke commercial is just epic weaksauce, not funny, not interesting and while it's trying to engage... seriously?... if it succeeds it'll be another indicator that America is on the decline.

just sayin & hopefully their is better to come.

Kia replaced Adrianna Lima with creepy babbies.

Of course this year is the suck. :(

Also, Kate Upton ad needed more Kate Upton and less Mercedes and jocks.

Half the reason I watch the super bowl when my favorite teams ain't in it is for the commercials. If you're releasing them online early, what's the point? It's just another commercial then, not something special like the Nike commercial shown ONLY ONCE due to the uproar it caused with the chick outrunning a leatherface wannabe. You don't get people sitting around talking about the stuff as much after the game because if someone gets hyped about it, someone else will say, "oh yeah, I saw that one last week." Takes the wind outta yer sails.

I dunno. It feels like it loses something. It's not special anymore, it's just another commercial. I see enough of those already.

obviously I've only seen a few so their is still hope that their will be several good ones but it just surprised me how homogenous the pre-release ones were.

Whats a commercial?

Do you mean that blurry stuff on the screen that happens when I push the 'back to the show' button a couple times?
Perhaps you mean the stuff that only exists with lost socks and timestamps between my HTPC metadata marked points?
blah blah blah signature blah blah blah

I'd find it funny if only commercials weren't better than the programs 1/2 the time.

There's more money, effort and talent spent producing a 30-second commercial for the Super Bowl than to produce an hour of "reality" television programming.

I agree, pretty "meh" commercials... Mercedes' one was ****, just as expected (Mercedes makes mostly boring cars and even worse Ads for them), the Audi's one was ok (but not great), the VW's one was pretty disappointing (bring back "unpimp my ride" Ads please!)...

This thread reminded me of something I read on Vice today

"I HATE SUPER BOWL COMMERCIALS"

http://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/i-hate-s ... ommercials

Please, for the improvement of humanity, we need to stop ranking Superbowl commercials. Picking the best Superbowl commercial is like picking the best catheter. Maybe one leaks the least, but it's still a tube in your peenhole. There is no such thing as a “best” commercial, just as there is no “best” tube in your peenhole, or Judas Priest album, or plague. There is only “the least bad,” which shouldn't be of any interest to anyone.

haven't watched reality television since the 1st season of Survivor of which I caught half, saw the Budweiser commercial on Nightline and it's not looking too good either.

hopefully the M&M team can come up with something to surpass last years which was decent.

oh yeah and I saw the GoDaddy superbowl ad.... WTF is wrong with that company, their first commercial was stupid but at least it was their first try, they have no defense since, literally will not use GoDaddy ever out of spite just like that stupid commercial from way back.... the one that kept repeating "apply directly to the forehead" can't remember the name of it.

something about headaches I believe it was.

The one and only time I was registering a domain, GoDaddy's prices were almost as raunchy as their advertising and priced a la carte to the max, with constant attempts to fool the user into clicking on service adders. A friend who runs a small hosting company then pointed me to a small-biz Canadian registrar that offered exactly what I needed at the most competitive pricing available, and that was that.

watched the Pizza Hut and Budweiser adds.... just ... a big old meh for the Budweiser and nothing good to say about the Pizza Hut one.

it's down to the 3 domestic autos and Pepsi and Pepsi's commercials have been crap for a few years so not expecting much of anything but more crap from them.

I'll even take a guess on how the Pepsi commercial will go, girls will treat guys like idiots and guy will accept it because focus groups won't allow anything else to happen and Pepsi is dedicated to focus groups, if that doesn't happen it'll be about empowering women through a song using 1 or many female artists.

I have nothing against Pepsi or women, it's just how their advertising has been lately.

"Da land of ten tousand lakes mon!"

Yeah, I loved the VW one where the guy talks like a Jamaican.

Apparently some people out there thought it was racist or something. Meanwhile, Jamaica comes out and says they loved it..haha

Well, the Paul Harvey narration was inspiring. The images of farmers was inspiring.

Dodge however, not so much.

The GoDaddy commercial was nasty. And not in a good way. :x

The problem of this GoDaddy Ad is that they used wrong people - they should've replaced this dude with Danica, instead of letting her passively stand around... Or they should've replaced this female model with a male model from a Calvin Klein's "Concept" Ad!

Consumer reports 2nd place 2009, best buy 2010, 1st & 2nd place ranking across the world 2011, 2012, recommended buy for both, truck of the year 2013, best fuel mileage, best suspension, best interior for 2013.... good golly what's wrong with the Dodge Ram?

going to look at the Ford and GM commercials next.
JBI wrote:No need to wait, it's in the 2nd version (on their web site).
they did 45 takes.

when Danica Patrick first hit the media scene I wasn't really interested but now I consider her notably attractive while also being real and having accomplished many things.

Jeep commercial using Oprah fell flat for me, no interest might have worked a few years ago but to be honest I believe Oprah's voice just doesn't work, wasn't genuine, just a narration vs the Dodge commercial which just had real power behind it.... photo's may have worked better in place of video as well.

Challenger commercial was pretty good, started slow but worked on me by the end.

Taco Bell commercial was ok I guess.

I feel like I've seen the Dorito's Goat For Sale commercial before, it was ok I guess.

Hyundai didn't do much of anything for me... kinda sucked.

Dorito fashionista didn't work for me... it was ok.

M&M's commercial was weak in the first half but the 2nd half was ok, getting sick of retro songs getting abused in superbowl commercials.

Sketchers was homogenous.... felt bad for the Cheetah.

The Pepsi Next commercial wasn't what I guessed and it still gets a.... meh.

my favorite hands down was the "So God Made A Farmer"... it worked, end of story it just plain worked, resonated, it made me feel something and I won't forget that, the rest... meh along with a solid won't support GoDaddy out of spite.

The problem with the Skechers commercial is that "man outruns cheetah" was done during a Superbowl by Mountain Dew...about ten years ago. And that one had a proper "twist" on the ending which justified the ludicrous premise. Anyone who has ever tried to trap all four of a cat's paws at once -- especially the fronts -- knows the result is being shredded to ribbons, which is why the Skechers ending doesn't work.
