Display driver stops responding

Mon Jan 28, 2013 3:18 pm

Hi all,

This is the first time in a while that I am stumped. My system is stable except for the Nividia display driver that stops responding. I just reformatted, so fresh install of Win7, latest chipset and Nvidia drivers.

A quick google search seems to point to PSU issues (I have an OCZ 700W from a couple years ago). The event id is 4101 .

Any tips on what to test?

I would test the card on another machine. Find a friend willing and install the card on his and give it a shot. If the errors come back, then it is the card.
If not, just do a quick PSU swap and see if the errors go away.

Remove any PSU cable extensions as well.

Hi Guys,

I solved this by changing power setting in the Nvidia control panel, stock setting is Adaptive, I set it to "Prefer Full Power". No crashes since!.

I did change the card though.. just playing WoW, it would it 89c and the fan would ramp up.. I am getting cranky in my old age, the noise was annoying. Picked up a good deal on a GTX 670.. this card hasn't gone higher than 68c and is very silent.
