Rereading 1632 on my Kindle. I originally read this years ago on the CD that came with the hardback version of the 6th Honor Harrington book, using lynx to render HTML onto a 14" CRT monitor. It wasn't as horrible an experience as you might think - I think I had SVGATextMode[1] crank the monitor's refresh rate up to 85 Hz so I wouldn't get a headache.
It seems a lot more Heinlein juvie-esque wish-fulfillment (probably with less character development at this early stage) than it did, but it's still a fun read.
[1] Gods was this a long time ago[2], well before the Linux console got a framebuffer driver. I wonder if any Linux distros even still include STM anymore.
[2] Right about the time I met my wife, in fact, so in late 2002.
Hakkaa päälle!
