It's not over-hyped;
It will probably feel unoriginal because so many other games were inspired by it and borrowed gameplay ideas from it. It will look very dated.
This is always the problem with old games, but it doesn't make them bad.

Oohh I played this game a few years back with a friend of mine, great fun. I was running around like a scare chicken because I chose to be a psionic and didn't really have any good offence except the ice ball attack. We also had a lot of problems with crashing. We had to assign the process to one CPU, and add some files to the HDD if we got a "too little hdd space available" message, but we still finished it. good times
No, maybe the texture update, but I don't think any of them are faithful reproductions of shock's original assets and actually detract from the immersion factor. IMO, the low polygon models actually add to the strangeness compared to the modern alternatives. I was watching that video of the ghost comparison, and the original was definitely creepier.
