Time for a new laptop

Sat Feb 16, 2013 5:15 pm

It's time for a new one, the one I have now is an old HP running XP , so that will give you any idea of how old it is.
I found this at Best Buy while I was looking at the Zenbook , while nice , I'd rather have something a bit bigger.

I like the specs of this, Quad Core, 8GB Ram and a dedicated 2GB 660M.
Usages will mainly be work related , which basically means typing up leases, I would like to use it for gaming for when I take trips too.
There's also this one, however the 1366 x 768 is less than ideal along with no optical drive

This is the one I originally went to go check out, it seems to have a good balance of features with 1600 x 900 res.

I'd like to buy this weekend due to Presidents Day sales.
I'm not against ordering online, just impatient , hence BB
Price isnt a big issue , but I'd like to cap around $1,400 and even then I really dont want to compromise at that price point.

Your links are broken.

I think laptops should be just that, an actual laptop. I like something I can carry around. I'm a little biased. I like Thinkpads. A T430 seems to fit your needs pretty well. Might not be up to your standards for graphics though. Maybe a T530 with a 1080p screen, but then again you'd have trouble getting anything worthwhile as far as graphics goes.

Link

15" 1080p Matte IPS Screen, 670MX, and 3 Year Warranty bring it to $1468.

You could ease back the warranty or go with the 1080p TN screen to pinch a penny.

Your links range from 14" - 17", and you stated a variety of uses. So really what do you want? Do you want portability (which means 17" are out, 15" are marginal IMO), or you want "mobile workstation" types? Do you want an ultraportable, or you value the idea of replaceable batteries? Do you need touch with Windows 8? What resolution rocks your boat, 1366x768, 1440x900, 1600x900, or 1920x1080?
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

Yeah , I know. I ended up picking up the Samsung one I linked today. It's light enough to bring to work everyday, has a decent resolution and more than 4GB of RAM. The one Ryu linked was really nice but to big to carry to work daily. I'll replace the HDD with a 512GB SSD at some point. Win 8 is so far, umm, different, once i get used to it , I'm sure it will be a moot point.
