GTX 660 for $120 after MIR

Tue Apr 02, 2013 1:59 pm

Newegg has the Asus GTX 660 for $190 after $20 MIR. Newegg newsletter subscribers can knock an additional $20 off using code EMCXSXV42 to bring your total down to $170. I'm tempted to grab one even though I was set on waiting until the AMD 8xxx / Nvidia 7xx refreshes. A GTX 660 would make a nice upgrade to my 6850.

[Edit] Price update: See most recent post.

Is a GTX660 an upgrade from a GTX560Ti 448 Core?

Yes but only barely. The 560Ti Core 448 is about the same speed as the 570, which is slightly slower than the 660.

Not a worthwhile upgrade.

Not a worthwhile one. What's your upgrade target? Is anything unplayable that you think a GTX 660 would nudge into playability? I think you'd want GTX 680 class hardware or better for a meaningful upgrade.

Bump. This same card is on sale again for $169 (~$170) after MIR. Newegg promo code EMCXPWW24. Code expires 6/17/2013

My first hand experience with this specific card is that it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. GTX 660 was a good step up from my 6850, it's completely silent (even with the case side-panel off) at idle, and I couldn't hear ANY increase in noise when running MSI Kombustor / FurMark. Simply incredible, TR wasn't kidding about this thing. One of the best purchases I've made.

And if you're really strapped for cash and don't mind an Open Box item (and are quick on the "Add to Cart" trigger), you can get the open box one and still use the $20 MIR to give you a grand total of $152....for a GTX 660

I bought my 6850 open box 2 years ago and the MIR went through smoothly, bringing that card down to $115.

In honor of the new Nvidia game bundle I figured I'd throw this up again for people that are interested (since it's the most affordable GTX660 around, not to mention one of the best quality coolers of the bunch).

Get your Asus GTX 660 DC2O for $169 after MIR after entering promo code EMCXNXL23 (good until 7/15/2013). The game isn't bundled with the card yet, so be patient. I'd expect it to show up soon.

Newegg has Asus' GTX 660 for $120 after MIR until 2/11/15. Since the R9-280 is a 7950 Boost rebrand, and the GTX 660 is roughly equivalent, I'd say $120 for a card that performs the same as the $170 R9-280 is a good deal. I'd expect these to sell out FAST at this price.

[Add] Make sure you select the card from Newegg, not one of their other sellers. I just visited the page and it defaulted to PC Rush seller at $195 and no rebate. The next time the seller was Newegg....

The 660 isn't equal to an R9 280, but that's still a really good price.

Are there ever good prices on graphics cards without MIRs?

Technically you're correct, but in the games TR tested: there's about 3fps difference on average (99th percentile) between the Asus GTX 660 in question and the reference R9-280/7950 Boost (which is what most of the ~$170 R9-280 cards are) .....Anything within 5fps is close enough to equivalent for me. If they were priced the same, I'd go with the R9-280, but at $50 difference....pretty easy decision
