oh hey it was updated on my barfday. I'll run it when I can.

The initial version of this game was awful by almost anyones standards but as a former player of 11 I hope ARR fixes it.

Hehe, I didn't either. It really probably would help, given the heavily CPU-bound nature of the benchmark. People with 7950s (!) and LGA2011 are beating me on another forum. Curious to see how an FX would do!

I played FFXI for 7.5 years. Over five years in, after I finally got my Relic-5 weapon for my chosen class (DRK) and had pieces of AF2 for a lot of classes, my long-time Japanese/NA linkshell broke up, and I limped along for another 2.5 years before deciding it was ruining my life and I quit. I logged in not very long ago, and it just feels so archaic now. I'll cherish my good memories of FFXI forever, but I don't look back fondly on night spent up for 36+ hours straight grinding monsters for skillups, or endless merit parties. (´Д⊂ヽ

I was in the closed NA beta for FFXIV and it was so wretched I exited after the third time logging in, uninstalled the beta, and removed myself from the mailing list. I haven't looked at anything about FFXIV:ARR, but I hope it's at least better than that garbage. Worst MMORPG ever, and I say that without a hint of irony or ignorance.

What boggled my mind was that the game had more files than win7 and the 30 other games on my hard drive put together

W
T
F

seriously, that's just retarded. I'll install it on its own partition unless I know it's changed in ARR

I only played 11 up to level 30 or so (supposedly where it got good. I don't have that kinda patience and rarely do MMOs as long as people who obsess over them) but I still have hopes. Just not much vested interest. I do miss the catgirls though! Western games that even bother have certainly screwed that up.

That's just their developers being lazy. I mean even back in the days of Doom Id knew it was a good idea to merge those several thousand small files a game might need into a big .pak.

I played FF11 quite a bit but when I tried out the new one I had to turn it off after playing it for 15 minutes. Even though your outside it still feels like being stuck in a cave. Also, I got into the new beta but Square Enix keeps saying my username and password are invalid after 3 times of changing my password for the account so I gave up.

Yah, I meant mine. I've got a 1Ghz clock rate advantage on you, and a small process advantage too (IVB vs. SNB). Hehe.

The game is still directx 9, it's very likely to focus on one core for graphics work. If they actually upgrade the engine to dx11 it should be a lot better balanced.

But if they haven't yet for ARR I'm not expecting anything before next year.

DX9/DX11 has very little to do with the MT-friendliness of the game. If the game wasn't pretty multi-threaded, there's no way people with 3930Ks would be beating me!

Well, I guess, unless their CPU clock were a lot higher than mine. I suppose a lot of those guys with 3930Ks and 3960X probably have exotic custom watercooler loops going. Hehe.

Clockspeed matters a lot with single threaded processes.

Newer graphics cards are also built with dx11 in mind, though they obviously can't skimp too much on dx9 perf as long as everyone and their dog is still using it.

8629 and if the game looks anything like this benchmark I will play it for the visuals alone, this was at 1920 x 1080 on high settings with an i5-2500k running at 4.7 and a Gigabyte 2gig HD7850oc.

I have played 3 of 4 FF games with the first being the one with the main character name as Cloud or something like that, man I got a lot of hours out of that game, or I lost a lot of hours out of my r/l:)

Core i7 3630QM + GTX 660M 2GB at 1920x1080 = 2479 aka "Standard" performance. Neat little demo, I was honestly surprised with how smooth the frame rate appeared given the score though I wouldn't have considered it "playable" by my standards.

Scored 4583, maximum @ 1920x1080.

My OC Q6600 is definitely CPU limited. OC'ing the GPU only got my score up to very slightly over 4600, and GPU-Z was showing very low GPU load during scenes when the frame rates seemed the lowest.

Well, the game looked this good 2 years ago when I played in the closed beta for the original FFXIV release. The game looks fantastic; that was never its problem!

It's just an awful game.

I hope the "A Realm Reborn" re-release is good, though. I'd like to see another good Final Fantasy game.

Anyone with more than 4 cores care to post a task manager screenshot as the bench is running?
Curious to know how well threaded this is.

I'm curious too. ¦3c Particularly given that this is a PS3 and/or possibly PS4 (?) title, the results could be interesting.
