W7 won't run from clone in same computer.....

Sat Apr 20, 2013 9:09 pm

Is there any way around this? I cloned the old 80GB drive I'd installed W7 on as a temporary measure while my bigger HDD was being replaced on warranty to the newly arrived replacement drive, only to have W7 tell me it wasn't a genuine copy when I tried booting from the new clone. Is there a way I can tell it I'm not pirating Windows and just trying to put it on a drive with more space, or do I have to reinstall it from the DVD to the bigger drive from scratch? Thanks in advance for any info.

Call Microsoft to get it reactivated.

Sounds like a bad clone. What software did you use?

Yep. You might have to go through the process of re-entering your serial key then entering a big long code and all sorts of hoopla, but other than time consuming it's pretty painless and straight forward.
