A case with a horizontally mounted motherboard

Thu May 16, 2013 5:26 pm

Hello again,

Does anybody know of a case besides the bitfenix prodigy that has a horizontally mounted motherboard? I've been looking but obviously Newegg.com lacks the ability to browse computer cases by the orientation of the motherboard. What any of you be able to help me with this?

edit: more details here: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=88022&p=1165317#p1165317

The pizza-box case died long ago and is probably never coming back.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

In Micro-ATX, try the Silverstone Grandia GD04 or GD05.

You could also just lay virtually any tower case over on its side.

I was also going to say the HAF XB...reviewed it awhile back -- still have it around too. Decent case. http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/coolermaster_haf_xb/

I've also played with the Xigmatek Gigas -- but you'd have to settle with a mATX board to run it. :P http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/xigma_gigas/

Well:
Most HTPC Cases use a horizontal mobo orientation.
mATX desktop cases.
Most slim cases can be rotated on their side.
Couple miscellanious mATX cases.
Also, many mITX cases have the mobo mounted horizontally.

Please be more specific about the size mobo you want to put in the case.

What a face palm moment for me! What a useless question I asked, but thank you for those who recommended the Cooler Master case. It seems just what I'm looking for.

Specifications I'm looking for:

> Can fit full size ATX PSU. The Prodigy was seeming amazing but its PSU mounting area makes you have to bend a lot of cables at 90 degree angles and doesn't play well with modular PSU's from what reviews I've read. This was a poor design choice for BitFenix.
> Can fit a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo (best bang of the buck cooler, as most water cooling options apparently only give a few degrees improvement).
> Can fit a foot long GPU.
> Micro ATX preferred motherboard.

From what I can see about the Cooler Master case, it can fit a Hyper 212, but the top fan may or may not need to be removed, depending on how you interpret the reviews. It is also pretty large, but that is not a bad thing for me.

The reason I am looking for a case which has a horizontally mounted motherboard is mostly due to hobby than necessity. The Prodigy still has the best form, but it has enough gotcha"s to put me off (the PSU issue, front connector cables being too short, and that most ITX boards have a problem with large CPU heat sinks).
