TR Flickr Group

Sat May 04, 2013 6:33 am

If some of you all are interested, I'd like for us to have a TR Flickr group. Flickr has 3 types of groups: public, public invite-only, and private. It seems to me that either public invite-only or private is most fitting...

Anyone?

I would be down. I need to switch over to flikr anyway. The new interface at photobucket is killing me.

Emrys: coolness. I'll let this thread simmer for a bit and see if anyone else is interested...

Is it an attempt to avoid the mega thread upstairs? ;)

Granted, Flickr can show the EXIF which is good for discussions and stuff too, and is better than just hotlinking individual pictures.

I'd be interested. I feel like I post 1 or 2 pictures to the epic thread every so often, but not a lot of other people post their work. It'd be neat to see everything that other people take, not just the ones they specifically single out.

My hope is that it would improve all aspects of the sharing our photography with each other... dunno. It seems like there is enough interest so I've created a group... I have created a private group. No one weighed in on the private/public issue so I figured private was best. It probably wasn't necessary but I created a "no porn / NSFW" rule since I don't figure that's what we're interested in and I know that I'll be browsing this from work. PM me your flickr name and I'll invite you. If any of you want to be moderators, let me know... If there is anything else about this process that you think is important, let me know.

So how does one join this group? I'm now on Flickr.

If you want to join the group you need to be invited since it's private. I made it private so that if we post pics of our families and such we can control how public it is. If you want something to be fully public you can do so by posting it to your own "Photostream". All of my pics so far are public on my Photostream but I made the group a private group for the comfort of everyone who wants to join.

To get an invite, PM me your Flickr user name.

I'm new to Flickr as a whole and so obviously new to the Flickr group thing. I've noticed that there is a group discussion section there.

I am admin since I started the group, but I can make others admin or moderators if you like. I'm new to the role of admin/mod, but I don't suppose there's anything too special about it.

It appears that you must have 5+ photos uploaded for a few days before you can put them in a group. That's what i got from 'help' anyway.

I'm going to watch flip-mode in your honor. I have em' all.

I have made a couple of posts to the group. The one today has links to Tony Kuyper's Photoshop tools, his luminosity masking technique is very powerful. I was staring to get into this stuff with my 4x5 but now I have far more material to deal with and I am going to get this working properly.

The links.

Well the new flickr is horrible. I'm not sure I want to be on flickr anymore. The group is still old style but I would not bet it will stay that way.

Is it horrible? I noticed the change but haven't spent enough time with the new version to see if it is good or bad. What's bad about it?

The change is a little jarring, but it still works the same, and I like the new set/gallery view.

I do like the new gallery view.

Interestingly, this morning I read a Gizmodo article on the subject of how Yahoo destroyed Flickr, or rather the promise that Flickr once had. Dunno about that article, though. It's premise was that Flickr could have beaten Facebook to be the defacto social site. I'm pretty sure I've heard that said of a couple of different sites, so the premise begins to ring hollow after the umpteenth time.

Even more interesting, is that Flikr is for photography- and Facebook so isn't. And while I may have made Facebook some money by using the site, I've actually paid Flikr money for their services :).

Woah, I think Flickr may have just opened up a can of whoop ass. Am I reading this right: EVERYONE gets 1TB of space and gets to upload full-scale images?

Edit: yep, just uploaded 7 full size images :P Awesome. I can't tell if there's still a monthly limit, I'll have to look into that.

I will not put my full size images anywhere. I'll always upload web size stuff to the web. Not that my stuff is so precious but it is bad practice. I sell my prints.

I do have my own site though so I can do as I please. I do have one full size I expose to the web, really to show the Fuji X-E1's capability:

That is a fantastic reason not to put full size images up on Flickr. Although, I guess you could restrict any of the full size images so they can't be seen by others.

I have been trying to arrange a menage a trois with myself, my camera, and a beautiful view of the sunset. I haven't been able to get to any place that anyone would consider a beautiful view, but I did manage to snap some pictures while walking the dog. I added the images to the TR Group. None of the images have been post-processed, just different camera settings. I think on a couple of the shots I used the a57's "sunset" scene mode. Other settings are manual, program, or auto.
