crossfire problem

Sun May 19, 2013 3:53 pm

Hey all, I just picked up a couple radeon 5830s, and have them in crossfire on a p7p55d pro. I enable crossfire in CCC, but so far, black ops, cod mw, crysis, and crysis 3 just load a black screen. When I disable crossfire, they all work fine. Tomb raider is the only game I can get working with it enabled, but after running benchmark, I doubt I'm using all the possible power of the cards as I only see a 20 frame jump from my old gts250. I'm running a 550 watt PSU, and am not sure if that is enough power. The PSU calculator seems to think it is, but I have mixed feelings

Two 5830s on a 550 watt PSU?

Iffy at best...especially if the brand isn't reputable.

yeah, its a cheapy, but i guess my real question is, would the lack of power cause all these games to crash as soon as they are started?

I re ran the tomb raider benchmark with 1 card installed, and the frame rate changed by 4 frames on average

Crossfire has issues with some games...but an easy test would be running something like 3DMark11 since it's very supported in terms of Crossfire.

If you don't see a change there then something else is wrong.

As far as performance goes, you might also want to verify that your games are running in "true" full screen mode and not "full screen windowed" or windowed. Crossfire doesn't really work properly when not in true full screen. Not sure if that would help the black screens, though. Installing the latest CAPs (if you haven't already) might help too.

Turns out it was a power supply issue. Crossfire is running great now. Loving the frame rates I'm getting for spend 20 a piece on these 5830s
