My WWDC Whining

Mon Jun 10, 2013 3:54 pm

I'm actually pretty excited about some of the announcements in the Apple WWDC keynote today. But two things are bugging me:

1. No new MacBook Pro? WTF?

2. A Mac Pro that looks like a garbage can? WWTF ("Whoa, What The ...")?

I'm not planning to buy a Mac Pro (or a garbage can). But the MBP thing bothers me... :(

Skeuomorphism lives!

I've been suggesting to friends that there's a coming convergence of design cues from Apple and Dyson, but I thought I was just kidding.

The MacBook Air was an easy update due to the lack of a Retina display. My guess is that the Haswell equipped MBAr will be out in the fall.

The centralized cooling core with one fan is a great idea. Expandability is provided by Thunderbolt 2. The small footprint is amazing (no need to store it under a desk).

The Dyson reference is apt (and flattering). I get the same vibe from Dyson as I do from Apple:

A good engineer encompasses the best of science and art, combining artistic creativity with the analytical rigor of the scientist.

Indeed it does, even in my language choices.

I agree. It's not as big as a garbage can after all. It's more like a tissue-box sized Cray!
