Has anyone seen the Haswell overclocking with strap chng

Thu Jun 06, 2013 7:10 pm

Wondering if anyone has tried or has seen anything on OCing Haswell using the strap blk clock change or if running a higher block vs a stock block at the same clock speeds. I am curious if there is going to be a performance change of some kind using a higher block with a lower multiplier.

I will not be getting one so i cannot find out myself!!:)_

I'm also interested in this. I have not found much discussion of overclocking using the Haswell/Z87 strap setting, probably since just changing the CPU multiplier on K series processors is so easy.

Can you overclock a non-K series Haswell processor by just bumping the strap/base clock settings, for example going from a 1.00 to a 1.25 base clock multiplier?

Well, just listened to the podcast, and I guess there's no non-K overclocking using base clock with Haswell. Too bad - it could have been a great value.

Really? Oops, I assumed you could.

I initially had the same assumption that CPU multiplier changes were limited to the K-series, but base clock adjustment would be unrestricted. Alas, unless some motherboard maker comes up with a workaround (it could happen, I suppose), it seems base clock adjustments are going to be exclusive to the K-series chips.

By the way vargis14, I'm sorry if I high-jacked your thread a little bit.
