I'm pretty excited about Company of Heroes 2, I've played the heck out of its predecessor.

The NVidia GeForce Experience (NGE) software is supposed to reconfigure your games for optimal settings based on your hardware. Supposedly.

NGE, not that I trust it, tells me that on my 2560x1600 display, I should run Image Quality at Minimum, Physics Off, Snow Detail Low, and Texture Detail Low. Admittedly, when I run the Performance Test in CoH2 with really high settings, I do get a few slow frames, but it's not horrendous and I actually find it quite playable. Sure, different people have different thresholds for what constitutes playable frames/second, but I think I tend to be on the high side, wanting 40+ fps.

In general, do people find that NGE tends to set the settings extremely conservatively? Is this just a ploy to convince me my "GeForce Experience" would be better with a faster card? I have to admit, seeing these nerfed down recommended settings does hurt my feelings and make me feel bad about myself.

CoH2 is the only game I have that really taxes my system right now (see signature below), so I can't really compare other NGE settings in other games.

I don't use it and don't really see the point. I can adjust in-game settings manually so that the game will feel "playable enough" according to my own subjective preferences. Different people have different definition of an "acceptable game fluidity/smoothness/whatever"...

It's very new, so it's probably conservative with settings by design. This experiment by Nvidia is likely going to be more useful for them for optimizing drivers based on gathered statistics than it is for users to find good default settings, though it should get much better with more time and data. I say give it a shot and give Nvidia your results; it can only help all of us.

I've had a similar experience with Metro 2033. I have a 670 and play at 2560x1440 and Nvidia Experience put the settings a lot lower than I had them manually set and I didn't notice an improvement in framerate.

I've played through the campaign, with Image Quality at High, Physics High, Snow Detail High, and Texture Detail High at 1080p. It has been a pleasant experience. The recommended settings for my machine, in NGE and in game settings were far to low, but I averaged 40fps through the game with some slowdowns occasionally I and have a 2 year overclocked card. Personally I think the game engine isn't very optimized, or the nvidia drivers are not ready for it yet.

I've found it conservative in the latest games I've played, because personally I don't need 60 fps in a game like COH2, although in a game like WOT I would. Some might like more then 60 fps though

I asked about this a while back. The consensus was that your better off doing the video settings yourself. NGE tends to be conservative and sets things lower than your machine can handle.

I have always done my own video settings. That said, I decided to try the software. It set the card up very close to the way I do it for BF3. It's not bad, just slightly conservative, but if you understand what you are doing you don't need it. The neat thing will be later on for the Kepler GPUs when it adds the recording feature. Supposedly a very low impact hit on your resources.
