I was reading the newest system guide released here and I was thinking about what my next build should be. This next build would play some games off of Steam (maybe not AAA games, but AA games) and the usual things that everyone does with PCs these days. This is my set of ideas for my next build:

I already have an XFX 650W PSU I acquired last year. I am still debating going to Windows 8 or Windows 7 Home Premium. I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

This build looks good. It will blow the build in your sig away.

Get Windows 8. Once its updated to 8.1 (later this year) there will be no good reason not to use it.

The build looks good overall. The 7870 is very close to the GTX 660 and I can run BF3 on ultra settings @ 60 fps on a 1920x1080 resolution. The system you are setting up is very close to what I am doing. Good luck with your build and enjoy! I am running Windows 8.1 right now and I am very pleased with it.

Your 2560x1440 monitor might merit a Radeon HD7950 Boost or a GeForce GTX670 instead of a Radeon HD7870 to provide fluid game play.

JAE, compared to the 670, wouldn't the 770 offer the better deal? It's not much more in price but offers much more performance.

I upgraded from Vista to WIndows 8, so I might have a skewed perspective, but WIndows 8 is fine, and what little I tried of 8.1 was even better.

Basically Windows 8 is a little kid's version of Windows 7. Vista was the worst OS since Windows ME. Yes, you do have a skewed perspective.

I use Windows 8 at home, and I put up with the nuisances. I installed it on my computer at home only because I got it for free when I worked at Best Buy, and I don't like the idea of donating $100 to M$ for an OS which is worth $20.

Well, there are still ways to get the desktop UI back to what it should be, rather than tolerating the Modern UI. Start8 and Classic Shell come to mind.

I have used Classic Start 8 but it was buggy. I have used another at my parent's house, I don't know what it's called but the Windows icon was black. I don't want to pay $ for the experience.
