If you're using Sandy, heat won't really be an issue with any high-end cooler, if your CPU can actually hit 5.0GHz. My 2500k can get to Windows at 5.0, but is stable at 4.8. I'm using an H60 that's lesser to everything in Chrispy_'s list.

From what I've read about Corsair's line, the H80 when set to 'low' is the quietest high-performing integrated water-cooler out right now; it's quieter than the H60 as measured by Anandtech. I'll bet that the Noctua is the quietest high-performance tower cooler.

I've had both an H60 and (currently) an H100. The H100 is way, way quieter, but I have no experience with the H80. The downsides to the H100: cost, have to make sure you have a case that will accommodate it, for maximum performance you need two extra fans (although I didn't do this, and my 2600k @ 4.5 Ghz is at 60C at full load). Having said that, I also have a Noctua NH-D14 and the differences in temps from that to the water cooling is not a much as you'd expect, and it's pretty quiet mostly. I'd say that the water cooling is a more pleasant sound at full tilt, however.

I just upgraded my old core 2 duo E6700 system to an i5 3750K on an ASUS P8Z77-V LK mobo cooled with a Hyper 212 EVO. The E6700 overclocked stably at 3.2GHz without a voltage tweak. Overclocking the 3750K takes a bit of finangling. With the stock cooler it would hit 100 C after only a couple of minutes at 4.3GHz. Sizzle sizzle, no good, and that was with stock voltage. With the 212 EVO (fan speed set to Turbo in BIOS and with duo fans), Internal Pll Overvoltage ENABLED, BCLK at 103MHz, CPU Current Capability 120%, CPU PLL at 0.1v, and CPU Spread Spectrum DISABLED, I've gotten the 3750K to a stable 4.43GHz with maximum temp at 68 C.
Curiously, the ASUS mobo is more stable with the BCLK at 102 or 103MHz than at 100 or 101MHz.

Been running 5.35 Ghz on a 2700k @ 1.51v chilled liquid cooling (-25c) , fully stable . Can boot / game at 5.45 but not IBT stable at that. Will attempt to boot at 5.5 / 5.6 but locks on the windows loadup screen. Max cpu temp under IBT max is 36c.

Also running two 7970 lightnings @ 1400 / 1850 . 1.4v vcore.

This is a 24/7 setup too so its my primary gaming rig :-)

I was able to get my 2500K to 5ghz even with a $25 CM Hyper 212. The temps were a bit high because of the voltages though. For an everyday overclock I settled on 4.6ghz, which runs about 20C cooler than at 5ghz. With a GTX460 I don't think it's the CPU bottle-necking my PC anyway.

After years of trying and failing miserably, I was finally able to get a decent OC out of my i5 750.

My XMP has given it a slight overlock from 2.67 to 3.04 GHz, which isn't much.

But Sunday I was able to get it to 3.8 GHz (200 x 19) after remaining determined after a few failures aiming for 3.6. Not sure if placebo, but it feels noticeably faster in Windows and BFBC2 seems a bit smoother. I'm pretty much at stock voltage and didn't even have to lower my RAM clocks as they're still at 1600 MHz and their recommended CL9 timings.

She be stable after 2 hours of BFBC2 and 30 mins of Prime 95 torture before I got bored and wanted to play more games. I'm on a custom water loop, so temps didn't go above 56 during prime 95 and are considerably lower during full "gaming" load.

I think I'll be able to easily hit 4 GHz by bumping the multiplier from 19 to 20.

I know 3.8 isn't really anything to write home about, but I'm happy to finally succeed where I've failed many times before :D.

its been at 5.125 for months now encoding blu rays and playing games, it can pass a linx test for hours and hours (last time i tested i got bored after 12hours)
voltage regs has its own fan to keep it under 65

Well sir, you certainly have cojones. I would be too scared about the long-term degradation of my 3820 to put my vcore that high.

I just went for an easy 4.4, never seen it go over 1.25...

my previous cpu a C2Q QX9650 i had running at 1.67v 4.2ghz for over 4 years and is still running at those speeds in my friends pc
i may learn my lesson if i ever blow a CPU but it hasnt happened yet so ill keep pumping volts into them :)

My favorite overclock of all time is still going strong for what was then my sister's and is now my gf's PC. e2140 (1.6ghz) overclocked to 3.2ghz (currently at 2.8 ) on an Artic Cooling Freezer 7. With a slightly overclocked 8800gt it rated better than 97% of all systems on 3dmark06 8)

Also had my old 1090t stable @ 4.3(3 cores)/4.4(3 cores) on water.

My most disappointing achievement has to be my current FX-8320 @ 4.5ghz (I can get 4.6 but maxed out thermals and voltage = 8(

Check your motherboard- even the low-end CPUs can be overclocked a little!

My best overclock ever was taking an Athlon X2 5000+ Black Edition from 2.2GHz to 3.3GHz.
Previous to that, I had taken a Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego from 2.2GHz to 3.0GHz.
Currently, running a i5-2500K at 4.7GHz.

Overclocking can be fun.

Running an FX-8350 @ 4.7GHz w/ 1.4 volts on a Crosshair V Fomula (non-Z), and cooled by a H110 with the fans controlled by a controller. With Asus's Real Bench benchmark, it got to 61c, but under the stress test, it'd sit around 58c. If I try to go for 4.8 or higher at that voltage, it won't make it through a stress test at all, and I'm not in a need to go higher at high voltages and higher temps. lol

Got 3 I7-7700Ks running on test bench right now. Going to do a post on them in a couple of weeks when I finish.

2) 5.1ghz stable @ 1.300v (5.2 runs but not fully stable)

I typically don't overclock as, as most people find, system stability can suffer if you push just a bit too hard.
But back in the day I have a Celeron 300a running at 450MHz a nice 50% overclock and made for a snappy processor for the time.

edit:
Also if you posting give us an idea of how much OC it is (either start frequency or a percent)
