Dynamic DNS

Sun Jul 28, 2013 9:46 pm

OK, DynDNS has now gone the all-paid route and now forces me to manually update (and change) my dynamic host every 30 days unless I start writing them checks. What else is out there for free dynamic DNS services. Nothing fancy, just a way to keep certain traffic flows finding me whenever Comcast decides to change my addy.

This list is kinda outdated by now, but might still be helpful:

In particular I've heard positive experiences of people dealing with http://www.noip.com (though personally I haven't tried them yet).

Looks like myip.com has been parked.

I meant "www.noip.com", sorry for mistyping that...

As long as it works with Tomato on a WRT54GL all is good.

It's not all paid. They just need "account activity" every 30 days. It has been a couple of months, I have received an email every month saying my account will expire if not click on their link for 5 more days. So I just click and "confirmed I have activity" and then wait for the next month. I just did it again. So to me it took all of 10 seconds.

Another month came, and I got the email right on time. I just click the link in the email and I am free to use this another month. I don't think it is that big of a deal. I don't even need to do anything else after the new page popped up on their site. I close it and am good for another month.
