AMD 7770 for $80

Tue Jul 16, 2013 8:53 am

I've been seeing a fair amount of people looking for budget gaming GPUs in the forums lately so I thought I'd throw this up. Newegg has MSI's 7770 for $80 after MIR until 7/22. You could also get this Powercolor 7770 for the same price until 7/17.

The 7770 is not the most potent gaming GPU, but it will give you 40+fps at 1080p and medium-high quality settings on almost every game available today (besides Crysis 3). If I had a little more than $100 I'd still go for a 7790 which I've seen on sale for ~$110-120 (~40% increase in performance for ~40% higher price), but a 7770 for $80 is a guilt-free purchase if you're exploring PC gaming or on a tight budget.

Has PowerColor gotten better? IIRC they had a bad rep for shoddy QA a few years back. The Newegg customer reviews for it look very good, but there are only about 1/10th as many as for the MSI so the sample size is much smaller.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

The Sapphire 7770 with 118 reviews averaging 5 stars looks like the best choice in terms of user-ratings. The Powercolor 6850 I had wasn't the quietest card around, but it wasn't bad either. I've heard better things about their AMD 7xxx series cards. Customer service is great though.

Speaking of which that Powercolor 7770 is $70 until the end of the day today (8/1) using promo code EMCXNVP42 and the MIR. If you're wary about Powercolor, the MSI 7770 in the OP is at the same price using promo code EMCXMXV54 good until 8/8/13.
